Great deal tbh, probably the best deal with a 5500U, compared to the other i3/i5 and even i7 deals, 5500U almost always comes out on top.
2 RAM slots, replaceable NVME and WiFi card, FHD IPS screen
only downside is the not so great battery size and probably not so great build quality.

but for sub-400, this is a no-brainer and can handle pretty much anything you can throw at it, especially if you take the 2x8GB 3200 RAM upgrade.

just wish other retails can price match on specific builds.

Ryzen 7 5700U is an option for an additional $90, didn't check the benchmarks to compare, but the Ryzen 5 5500U is probably fine for most people...

That's the name of the integrated graphics chip on this APU, It's not trying to mislead anyone.

How does this compare to the MSI deal from Walmart for $499?
It depends on a a few things.

First thing first, budget. This HP laptop offering best value from all the deal for high $300 to mid $400.

What kind of work, use you need? For gaming this HP would lose due to graphic demanding game would require dedicated graphic card. While GTX1650 wouldn't keep up with the newer more demanding game, it's still relevant for many games. Also dedicated graphic card is used toward 3D image work. However, for work that is less graphic reliant, the HP laptop is plenty sufficient. In some task that just relying on the CPU raw processing power, the HP laptop can even surpass the performance of the MSI.

So if you don't need it for 3D work, some graphic demanding game, and you don't want to stretch your budget, the HP laptop is very solid.

Stick with the 5500U. 6 cores, 12 threads, and 8mb L3 cache. 99.9% of people using it will never be able to tell the difference, for what this sort of a laptop will be used for. I can think of no really good reason to upgrade a $370 laptop like this with these specs and no discrete graphics card to an 8/16 core processor from a 6/12 core processor for another $90.
Totally agree.

Save the money toward RAM upgrade, and it should be solid laptop for most non professional settings.

Upgrading the CPU for this kind of of laptop is not a good investment. You still need to upgrade RAM to take advantage of the CPU, but then it's getting "expensive". This laptop build ain't suitable for intense usage due to lacking the high end cooling tech. You don't want to invest in stuff that you can't pry out and reuse in the new laptop in a few years time. RAM, even SSD are reusable, so there is value in spending money on them to get a boost of performance.

I guess I could have just sold the 8gb for $30.
I chatted and got the $25 coupon, so I was cool with paying the extra $50.
Funny, I have that walmart 4500u from last BF. I wonder how much better this laptop will be in graphics and processing power?

I bought this one yesterday from Walmart:

Walmart HP

Seems the one in this thread is almost exactly the same, but can be optioned into an IPS screen for less money. Is that correct and I should be ordering this and returning the one from Walmart? Thanks for any advice.

Walmart one says $429 now. This one is much cheaper, esp with the coupon code

Yeah, I picked it up for $399. They are still $399 if you can find one in store.

I was mostly curious if I was missing anything that made the Walmart one worth the extra money.

Thanks for the reply.
