HP has ran out of the backlit black keyboards! You can now only get the backlit option if you order silver or rose, both with silver keyboard. This is not surprising since white backlit shows up best with black background keys. silver background keyboards don't have as high visibility as black background keys with white backlit.

Great deal tbh, probably the best deal with a 5500U, compared to the other i3/i5 and even i7 deals, 5500U almost always comes out on top.
2 RAM slots, replaceable NVME and WiFi card, FHD IPS screen
only downside is the not so great battery size and probably not so great build quality.
but for sub-400, this is a no-brainer and can handle pretty much anything you can throw at it, especially if you take the 2x8GB 3200 RAM upgrade.
just wish other retails can price match on specific builds.
I have ordered 3 of these now. Each time getting a better deal. Next great deal advice.

I opted for the touch, IPS, micro-edge, BrightView +$40 hoping to get glossy. I can't stand a matte laptop screen.
That funny because one of the reasons I went this route was because I hate glossy touch screens on laptops. So many laptops have them these days. Matte for me.
Currently, it's showing for $349 for me (for base configuration, anyway) at this moment. But I've noticed other commenters posting that it is different for them.
Modified it to get the Touch IPS and 512 MB HD and the extra 8 GB of RAM.
Also, saved $10 by just getting the Natural Silver.
For those buying, if you are OK with taking the back off a laptop....I would recommend spending on the things you can't upgrade rather than the things you can.
Get the best display you can (I love touchscreen)
Get the 5700U, I believe on top of it being 8 cores/16 threads and faster CPU clocks you also get better graphics
Get the backlit keyboard if you like that feature.
Down the road get:
16 gb of ram (for $50), or 32 gb of ram under $100
Get a 1 TB M.2 drive for under $100
You will still end up just a bit over $500, for a crazy powerful laptop as long as you aren't into gaming
I looked at shimbopper recommendation of the Pavilion 15z-eh100, which you get much better I/O options, wifi, and bluetooth, for only an additional $60.
