Great deal tbh, probably the best deal with a 5500U, compared to the other i3/i5 and even i7 deals, 5500U almost always comes out on top.
2 RAM slots, replaceable NVME and WiFi card, FHD IPS screen
only downside is the not so great battery size and probably not so great build quality.

but for sub-400, this is a no-brainer and can handle pretty much anything you can throw at it, especially if you take the 2x8GB 3200 RAM upgrade.

just wish other retails can price match on specific builds.

Ryzen 7 5700U is an option for an additional $90, didn't check the benchmarks to compare, but the Ryzen 5 5500U is probably fine for most people...

That's the name of the integrated graphics chip on this APU, It's not trying to mislead anyone.

I'm seeing it $316.99 with the edu account singed in.
Is it for black or silver?
Regardless, this is a GREAT price, and if you are able to convince them on the phone or online chat to take off $25, then that would be even better! They mostly oblige when u call them.

Sorry for newbie ? What is the difference from 15z-ef100 and 15z-ef2000?
the ef100 has better ports (higher speed usb c, and hdmi 2.0) plus a better variety of colors and a different overall shape. It also allows for some higher level upgrades like wifi 6. It is said that it is better built, but both are their 15z line so I am not convinced of that. it is more expensive by about $80 depending on options.

HP has ran out of the backlit black keyboards! You can now only get the backlit option if you order silver or rose, both with silver keyboard. This is not surprising since white backlit shows up best with black background keys. silver background keyboards don't have as high visibility as black background keys with white backlit.

Also, last year, the backlit keyboards were only a $10 options. Seeing how popular they were, HP took full advantage of that and jack the price up to $30... Go figure.....

They also did away with the HDMI 2.0 and the DP and PD features on the usb-c... go figure again!!

How does this compare to last month's Target i3-1125G4 deal which I successfully price matched for $280 (see link below)? Is it worth $85 more for this Ryzen 5 version?

for just checking email, browsing and office, it probably won't make that much of a different as long as you got at least 8GB ram.

Apps that uses more than 4 cores will be a bit faster with ryzen.

If you play games, the ryzen integrated GPU is a bit faster.

Got the HP Pavilion 15z-eh100 deal from yesterday. (https://slickdeals.net/f/15462268-hp-pavilion-15z-eh100-15-6-fhd-ips-ryzen-5-5500u-8gb-ddr4-256gb-pcie-ssd-win11-419-99?v=1&src=SiteSearch).
That deal had expired but i still tried and got this for $505.00 (including taxes) with 2 day free shipping. EPP didnt work, but the Rep took off $50.

HP Pavilion 15 Laptop PC
Product number: 2H5A8AV
•Fog Blue
•15.6" diagonal FHD, IPS, anti-glare, micro-edge, WLED-backlit, 250 nits (1920 x 1080)
•No DVD or CD Drive
•256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD
•Full-size, backlit, cloud blue keyboard with numeric keypad
•Security Software Trial
•16 GB DDR4-3200 SDRAM (2 x 8 GB)
•Realtek Wi-Fi 6 (2x2) and Bluetooth® 5.2 combo (Supporting Gigabit data rate)
•No Additional Office Software
•Windows 11 Home 64 Plus
•HP Wide Vision 720p HD camera FGB
•3-cell, 41 Wh Lithium-ion prismatic Battery
•AMD Ryzen™ 5 5500U (up to 4.0 GHz, 8 MB L3 cache, 6 cores, 12 thread) + AMD Radeon™ Graphics

You can take $80 off of this by sticking to 8GB RAM (that was my mistake). Got tired of comparing the specs for minimal performance enhancements and balancing the price and pulled the trigger. Hope this helps.

Is it worth paying $20 to upgrade to Realtek Wi-Fi 5 (2x2) and Bluetooth® 5 Combo?

I am planning upgrade Ram and SSD after purchasing the basic specs; would I be able to upgrade to Wifi 6

I am not super smart about tech, but perhaps an expert on this thread can help. Toying with doing the processor upgraded to the Ryzen 7 but not sure if it's worth the $90 premium.

https://nanoreview.net/en/cpu-com...en-5-5500u

Looks like, as you would expect, modest improvement in individual core performance (sub 10%), but ryzen 7 results in overall 25%ish increase multi core performance (two more cores, after all).

What I don't know is, how much is this likely to impact your day-to-day? light gaming, browsing, x265 playback, 4K video etc. I don't think it's going to have a huge impact except on maybe processor-heavy loads, but that varies from application to application, right? For example, Civiliation, as I understand it, is processor heavy so that could benefit but other games might not? How is video playback impacted?

Yea the 5700U is worth it for light gaming and multi-thread applications. It also can't be upgraded later, unlike ram or harddrive that can be.

So IMO unless you only need a basic web computer I would get the 5700U upgrade.

Wait, so buy the 16GB upgrade, or can I upgrade later?

If $20 to upgrade to Wifi6, yes. But Wifi5? Not for me.

Yes, I read one can upgrade to Wifi6 later.

Ram you can upgraded later. So no reason to upgrade that now if you're ok trying the 8gb out.

I edited my last replay so its more clear.
