Great deal tbh, probably the best deal with a 5500U, compared to the other i3/i5 and even i7 deals, 5500U almost always comes out on top.
2 RAM slots, replaceable NVME and WiFi card, FHD IPS screen
only downside is the not so great battery size and probably not so great build quality.

but for sub-400, this is a no-brainer and can handle pretty much anything you can throw at it, especially if you take the 2x8GB 3200 RAM upgrade.

just wish other retails can price match on specific builds.

Ryzen 7 5700U is an option for an additional $90, didn't check the benchmarks to compare, but the Ryzen 5 5500U is probably fine for most people...

HP has the worst customer service I've experienced in a long time. I place an order for this laptop and made some configuration changes. One of the changes I made did not stick so when I got the confirmation I saw it was not there. Called them to get it changed and was told that they cannot do that, in order to get exactly what I wanted I will have to cancel the order and pay a 15% restocking fee or I can keep the item as is and get a $10 credit back to my account.

The laptop is not bad for a started but seesh working with them is difficult. Also you can use your .edu account to get the price lower.

Almost 20 hrs after canceling my order (due to a incorrect config, which they refused to modify), I still did NOT get any proof of cancellation from HP. Not even a request for cancellation email. Did any of you get an email after canceling the order? If not the final cancellation, at least a initial email?

Same. I want the 5700 instead, and hopefully deny the correct one at my door. Not paying any return fees for opening it.

449 total before or after the 50 off? Thanks.
After discount before tax. Same specs as Blazin post. Took about 30 min in the chat. Told them I did not want to wait on email discount for registering for newsletter. She added 2 year something or other as well.

Cancelation policy - as per my lengthy call with 2 people and 1 supervisor for total 2 hours, the gist of cancelation policy is that:

1. The customer service taking your cancelation request cannot confirm whether it would be processed as cancelation or return.

2. After taking your cancelation request, they would have to wait for 2 to 3 business days for the factory to respond whether they have started working on the laptop in some way or the other, irrespective of the shipping date being 10 days away from the date of cancelation.

3. If they deem it to be already work in progress, then they would process it as a return and not cancelation even though you canceled today. And you'd be subject to the 15% restocking fees.

I'm pretty bummed about it.

Hope it clarifies for all.

I finally got through on the chat. CSR won't budge on adjust the price to the current price, saying that Price Protection doesn't apply during Cyber Week (even if it's to their own price within Cyber Week). And also won't apply any coupon code. Any tips on getting them to work with us?

Anybody else try cancelling the order, was that successful?

Update: End result, got nothing. They would not budge on the price match to themselves. After I requested to cancel, they "looking into other options." Came back with offer of 500 points in their loyalty program. I turned that down and they offered 2 year care pack for free. Turned that down and requested cancel. They then said it was processing and possible 15% restocking. I asked if the Wifi 5 upgrade could be added instead but they said the config could not be changed.

Update 2: I reconnected to the chat and got the same CSR (at least it gave the same name). Asked for the 2 year care pack and they added it.

What results did anybody else get from cancelling?

This makes sense to me. If you customize they have to build your laptop. Once they start building they have sunk costs.

Yes but if the shipping date is 10 days away, what is the chance they have started on it? I mean sure mayb they have taken that 1 laptop in account for counting as needed parts and accordingly ordered parts or ordered to move those parts from some other factory to thr assembly factory or maybe they have allocated work flow for the next week based on the info in that order among the thousands others. No way they have actually started building it. If they have all these parts, it should take them no time to make it at all. Then the shipping date can't be 10 days from today.

I suspect they just have a hardline of .. as soon as the order reaches the build queue it cannot be changed. Easier to manage, more definitive.

Anyone had cancellation experience with HP? I placed an order last night, and tried to cancel with chat. Said no guarantee but they can put in a request.
So what is the outcome of your cancelation request? Thanks.

So actually ended up cancelling and reordering with smaller SSD ($385 total), given if I am going to open the computer once for ram might as well stick a bigger SSD inside and this is more cost effective vs ordering via hp. Also used costco card for warranty.

Trying to decide between the Samsung, WD, and SK Hynix SSDs… apparently SK Hynix runs coolest.
What was the outcome of your cancelation request? Thanks.

I have ordered 3 of these now. Each time getting a better deal. Next great deal advice.

***Order, wait a few hours and then call to cancel. You MUST call and wait a few hours. They will add a "recovery specialist" to the call who will offer you either free 2-year warranty or an extra $30 off.
Did you cancel or just ordered more? If you canceled, what was the outcome of your cancelation? Did they charge restocking fees?
