In my experience if all you want is to host some files and access them on a home network then they all seem to work. Having said that, and owning a few cheaper ones, once you go Synology you will never be happy with anything else Smilie

IMHO it's well worth stepping up to the Synology 420j for about $300

I've had the tr-004 for a couple of years now and it has given me a lot of trouble. I've used the hardware raid controller for raid 5 and the write speed slowed to a crawl, about 6 MB/s. I reformatted it and started over and its working better but I'm staying away from qnap in the future.

Sadly It seems Amazon only does price matching on their own if they see another site/company has a deal then they match it you can't contact them to match it

Nope, Amazon won't price match even their own stuff anymore. Bought a Fire TV Cube and 7 days later it was $15 cheaper.

Had to return it and buy again. Their loss...

I connect my mac to mine over WiFi. If you want to connect via usb, save yourself some money and get a "dumb" external usb drive.

Is this a stand along device or an expansion?
