Add wifi to old desktop/laptop which don't have Wifi or the Wifi antenna has gone bad. Just add this to one of the free USB ports and that old desktop or laptop can now get Wifi.

Like eg. I have old desktop without Wi-Fi capabilities, it is like really old like i5-4000 series CPU, DDR3 RAM, etc. but still works decent. I use it with just ethernet cable but now if I buy this and install it, I won't need ethernet cable, my desktop will be able to get on Wifi network.

Think of it like adding Wifi Antenna to your desktop.

Really what difference does it make if it is USB 2.0, 3.0 or 3.1 of it is a 300 Mbps connection?

Yup looks like drivers for Realtek chipset (RTL8192FU) were made for old Linux kernel and won't compile for newer kernels.

Also reviews are generally laughably bad. Not worth the $10 loan to newegg

Does not work on Linux! You need to compile your drivers yourself and as any good Linux user know, you do not do that sort of thing.
When I tried to compile it, I got compiling errors, the adapter simply does not work on Linux, it is false publicity, I could bring them to court.

Good point. 2.0 can go up to 480 Mbps.

Havn't done a rebate in years. Do you still have to cut off the UPC and mail it in? How reliable are they?

Wifi went bad on my 1.1 year old laptop... Not sure how to repair it, so for $.01 I can make my laptop have wifi again!

Or a laptop with a broken wifi. Cheaper and quicker to replace usually.

I can never get over 30mbps on these 2.4ghz band wifi cards, is it even worth the $1.50 after you factor in tax and stamp? Feels kinda like e-waste at this point

Support IEEE 802.11b/g/n, 2.4GHz. Personally I wouldn't use it if given for free.
