This energizer charger is a "1 Hr charger" so I'd expect it gets much hotter than a slower charger
It got stupid hot with the included charger. I used a infrared thermometer (laser temp gun) and the surface registered 142*F while the Eneloop charger was at 88*F. Heat is a batteries worst nightmare so the included chargers will probably be used on travel or when I need to recharge in a pinch.

I will say that the energizer branded rechargeable batteries are not the best. Better off going with Panasonic another brand. They do not last long.
Is your comment based on Energizer batteries made in Japan or China? I ask because that very much matters! For several years now there has only one plant in Japan making rechargeable AA/AAA batteries. So that plant is making Panasonic/Eneloop, Ikea, Fujitsu, and these Energizer batteries. I suspect your experience was with Energizers made in China -- and therefore would not apply here.

Didn't see them at local Costco (Poway) or maybe I didn't look too hard.

I just opened one of mine. The charger is very different from the ones I rec'd in 2019 and 2020 in similar kits from Costco. This charger is rated at 2500mA for AAs and 1000mA for AAAs. IMO that is way too fast to be charging these batteries. That said the batteries are well spaced out in this charger to allow more airflow around the batteries for cooling, but I still won't use the charger for normal situations. I have three older Energizer ones as well as a couple li-ion chargers that can also do NiMH batteries.

Huntington Beach Costco had plenty as their price tag did not show the discount. However, the $10 discount was applied at the register for a final price of $12.99 + tax.

Package claims that the charger is made in China and the batteries in Japan. See photo attached.

Wow! I did not know that. I will keep that in mind for the next purchase

For $13 I'll take the chance they don't last as long as Eneloops. Nearest Ikea is an hour plus away in traffic, so not going there for batteries.

Made in Japan though, so I'm betting they are better than your average non-Eneloop made elsewhere, if not as good as Eneloops. Plus the AA/AAA mix is pretty good for my uses.

The heat from that charger is a bit concerning, but I'll probably just use the charger I have for Eneloops.

If a human gets hotter it's good. I guess it's not the case for the charger or battery.

Please everyone… if you can, DON'T use this charger to charge the batteries. The reason it gets so warm and charges them so quickly is because it's basically cooking the batteries to get them recharged fast. Low and slow is what you want for the best capacity and longevity of the batteries.

Just bought these at Costco today and these mofo's get HOT during charging! My eneloops have never gotten this warm.
It's not the batteries, it's the charger. See what happens to the eneloops when you stick them in this. Do not use the charger unless you're ok with roasting your batts just to get them charged in an hour. Use your eneloop charger.

Question - If one put fully charged batteries in flashlights, will they drain over time if not used. If yes, any one have a guess as to how long before fully drained?

Are these low self discharge? I bought a few but I don't see anything stating they are LSD. May have to return them.
