That depends on several factors. One is the flashlight; some have electronic switches and those can (but don't always) have parasitic drain. Is there a limit to how many times these batteries can be recharged before they are no longer functional?

I'd say around 500 cycles for 2400ish AA cells while around 1000 cycles for 2000ish AA cells. Usually batteries don't just die, they just lose capacity over time and their internal resistance usually increases too.

Well - that's probably more cycles than I will ever recharge in my lifetime.

To be clear those numbers came from what Eneloop claims (as those batteries as well as these Energizers are made at the same factory).

I've been using a 1 hour charger to charge batteries, including Ikea batteries, for over 15+ years. Never had an issue with batteries failing prematurely. I have used this included charger and am quite happy with it and am not concerned about the heat. To be honest didn't even notice any heat beyond what I would consider warm. You want to feel how hot a battery can get during charging? Try a 15 minute charger. I can understand the nay sayers cautioning about using a 15 min charger, but a 1 hour charger is a good comprise that in most cases will not harm the life of the battery.

After buying these, I now have too many AAA batteries. Thinking of buying adapters to convert the AAA's to AA size and use in the low-current devices like remote controls. Not sure which adapters are good value though.

The charger that comes in the kit is kind of trash and shouldn't normally be used. As other have mentioned, it charges at way too high of a current rate and will decrease the lifespan of the battery. In case the battery runs out, most people probably already have other charged batteries on reserve to use and don't need the functionality of a rapid charger. So I would just discount the charger that comes in the kit and pretend it doesn't even come with it. It sounds like the included charger doesn't even have individual leds for each battery slot to indicate that slot's charging status, which is another big miss. The past Energizer kits from Costco came with better "slow" chargers (e.g. 300/150 mA to charge AA/AAA) with individual leds for each slot.

I'm wondering about the 2300 mAh AA batteries in the kit though. Made in Japan batteries implies rebadged Eneloops. But I'm not aware that there have ever been 2300 mAh Eneloop batteries being marketed. At first, I thought the Energizer AA batteries may be rebadged Eneloop Pro batteries. But Eneloop Pro AAs are rated at 2550 mAh as far as I know. Maybe they really are rebadged Eneloop Pro, but were binned out because they couldn't reach the 2550 mAh spec. Does anyone have personal experience with 2300 mAh Made in Japan Energizer batteries?

Binning could explain the differences, but my guess is that it was an attempt to not dilute eneloops marketing. Panasonic seems to be playing with the capacity numbers, listing max.("up to") numbers in their marketing instead of min. capacities. Energizer I suspect is doing the same with these Costco batteries, but it appears the 2300mAh may be a minimum capacity.

I am testing one of the Costco Energizers right now, just to see their capacity from new. My test indicates the AA's are 2450mAh capacity, AAA's are 900mAh. They were at ~55% capacity in package which indicates they were either not precharged, or possible manufactured a few years ago.

I think they are LSD, mostly because they appear to be coming from a Japanese manufacture that only produces LSD cells. Since it appears they were not shipped precharged, only time will tell. If they only drop to 2100mAh after a year of storage I suppose that would be confirmation.
