In my educated opinion? Inspiron? They look good on paper, but they're hard if not impossible to repair/upgrade, and they're made to break. Disposable, that's what I call them. If you buy one, get an upgraded/extended warranty, but you will find that the warranty is much more expensive than, say, a Vostro or a Latitude. There's a reason why warranties are cheap for the pro models.

Edit: Apparently I'm wrong, Inspirons are just as good, maybe better, than Dell's professional lines in every way. Silly me. Not being an ass here, I am literally kicking myself for spending more for my Vostro, my Latitude, and my Precision. I've never even owned an Inspiron laptop, so I have no right to comment on those. Frown

Yeah that's not true at all. I'm on one right now that I've only replaced the battery on and upgraded the RAM.

No issues after 4 years or so besides popping in a new battery. Touchscreen works perfect, hinges function as new. It looks and runs flawless still after all this time using it every day. I'm on an i5 with 16gb of RAM... love it.

Side note. Never bought a warranty.. didn't need it obviously after all this time.

Funny you say that an extended warranty for the Inspiron line is expensive because it was only $39 for the second year and also $39 for two-year accidental damage when I bought one last week.

Was the xps13 deal for $500 better or the same performance as this? Looking to lightly edit insta360 videos which my current laptop cant do well. Thanks!

This [dell.com] Inspiron 14 5000 series (5410) costs $50 less and gets you:

- Quad-core i3-1125G4 with essentially identical performance [cpubenchmark.net] as this i5
- Way better build quality (5000 series instead of 3000) - metal lid and keyboard deck instead of the Vostro's all plastic
- almost 30% higher battery capacity
- Much thinner bezels
- USB-C, supporting power delivery and display
- backlit keyboard
- 2x2 wifi (Intel) instead of 1x1
- about 0.3 lbs lighter
- only downside I see is no Ethernet on the Inspiron, and instead of Windows 10 Pro you get Windows 10 Home (S Mode but that's easy to get out of)

I have the Inspiron 5410 and it's a really nice computer, almost shockingly so for the price. Sorry but this Vostro is a dud of a deal.

Odd comment when you've never even owned an Inspiron. I have one that's 5 years old and working fine. I also upgraded it and it was super easy.

You're right. I was in a crappy mood. And, as I said, I was coming from outdated info. It's not that I'm not familiar with Inspirons, I used to repair and upgrade computers, but that was a number of years back when Inspiron was the bottom of the barrel and customer service was worse than the "pro lines" Vostro, Latitude, Precision have since introduced lower model lines, while Inspiron has introduced better lines (5000 series), so generalizations don't really apply because a top of the line Inspiron could be better than a bottom of the line Latitude. Now it's better to compare by series, i.e. 3000 vs 5000 vs 7000 series, rather than by the line. Live and learn. Thanks y'all and Happy Holidays.

why- cant find the keys? its a low priced business modell. not even fancy, thats the the price it should have always for the components.
