You probably bought a "Gateway" by Acer.

Walmart is selling "Gateway" by Evoo.

"Gateway" is just Walmarts store brand. Like Onn. But trickier, because people think it's the company that used to make good computers 20 years ago.

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2...-bad-news/

'More accurately, EVOO imports devices made by Shenzhen Bmorn Technology, a Chinese national brand. We found US Customs records of EVOO importing from Bmorn, with devices under both the Gateway brand and EVOO's own inside the same shipment.

An Acer representative confirmed later that, although Acer does own the Gateway brand, it is not directly involved in the production or manufacture of these devices."

Yep, not just made in China, made by China.

Not well here. I got the version that's similar to this but with the 10th gen i5 and only 256GB storage. Part of the keyboard stopped working so I used an external keyboard, but then the backlight started flickering too.
I tried to contact support after the keyboard issue but got no reply. After the backlight issue, I tried harder and finally got an RMA (I had to pay return shipping). Now it's been a month since I sent it in. I just followed up and they said they'd send a replacement since it was unrepairable, but I they haven't given me any tracking info or anything.

How does this compare to the hp 14 deal? After upgrading the ram and SSD for the hp this gateway deal seems like a better deal.

This gateway is better in almost every way but build quality is always a worry with them. I'd always choose better specs/internals over build quality though.

One of the main differences is that the HP at Target is (mostly) unavailable. It only comes in stock every so often for shipping, otherwise you have to be lucky enough to have one available locally.

Processor: i3 vs i5
RAM: 4Gb vs 16Gb
Storage: 128Gb SSD vs 512 SSD

I have had better luck with Gateway than HP in the past, I don't think this is a bad product for the price.

This was $427 earlier in the week. RAM soldered? Debating on returning the HP for this.

Bought one of these for a relative, build quality is okay, its what youd expect from a budget laptop, but the specs far exceed the price tag. No issues with it. If youre getting it for a kid maybe pickup the extended warranty with accident protection for cheap because a fall will probably break the casing or damage the screen, and if youre really rough with the hinge, you could probably break it over a long period.
