Lasted 5 years, defeated my HP and Dell
Walmart bought the rights to the Gateway BRAND just before the pandemic started.

Whatever you bought 5 years ago was not made by Evoo, the contractor making them for Walmart.

Processor: i3 vs i5
RAM: 4Gb vs 16Gb
Storage: 128Gb SSD vs 512 SSD

I have had better luck with Gateway than HP in the past, I don't think this is a bad product for the price.
You probably bought a "Gateway" by Acer.

Walmart is selling "Gateway" by Evoo.

"Gateway" is just Walmarts store brand. Like Onn. But trickier, because people think it's the company that used to make good computers 20 years ago.

'More accurately, EVOO imports devices made by Shenzhen Bmorn Technology, a Chinese national brand. We found US Customs records of EVOO importing from Bmorn, with devices under both the Gateway brand and EVOO's own inside the same shipment.

An Acer representative confirmed later that, although Acer does own the Gateway brand, it is not directly involved in the production or manufacture of these devices."

Yep, not just made in China, made by China.

I have a refurb 15 incher and two problems is the bottom panel is so crappy you can push on it and stop the system fan. Also randomly the case cracks from light exposure? Maybe it was a plastic MFR defect or something with the mold but I've never seen plastic just crack from no stress.

I used to have the i3 version of this, just because I needed a cheap place holder until I could build my desktop. It actually worked surprisingly well, for how low-end it was. I was able to play a lot of PS3/Xbox 360 level games, sometimes at 60fps. I didn't have this laptop, but since the specs are higher than the one I had, most people will be plenty happy with this, as long as you're not trying to do competitive gaming or anything.

Good thing these laptops are still excellent deals, and Evoo has made many good gaming laptops such as their Evoo 2060 and 1650 gaming laptops.

Seems like a fantastic deal to me. I bought one of these at $450 and thought that was a good price. Then it dropped to $427 and now $400...the only way I'd skip is if you want to game or need a bigger size (which as someone mentioned you can get the 15.6" for $50 more, which is still a great price for the specs).

I can pretty much guarantee that you cannot find any other $400 laptop new with an 11th gen i5, 16GB ram, and a 512GB SSD. Great deal.

One of the main differences is that the HP at Target is (mostly) unavailable. It only comes in stock every so often for shipping, otherwise you have to be lucky enough to have one available locally.
Can it do some gaming ?

Will it be able to do some gaming? Got it to hold me over until I can snag a decent deal next year

Does anyone know if the usb-c port can be used to connect to a dock? I picked up the 14 hp from target but comments say you can't dock via usb-c so that may be a deal breaker.

Last time I heard of "gateway" was back in 2000s
I am still using my gateway laptop from 2011 as a stationary desktop. Been looking to replace it with a 14" 2n1. Bought a HP from bestbuy last year with same processor for $600, but returned it unopened. 8GB non upgradable. I wanted at least the option to go to 16gb. That same laptop is now going for $800 (last I checked). I might forgo the touch screen, backlit KB, and wifi6 to pay $400 and be done with it for now.

The spec says the weight is 4 lbs. Is that the package weight? 4 lbs for a "ultra slim" 14 laptop seems high.

Seems too good to be true at this price. 4lbs is 1lb heavier than somewhat more expensive laptops with similar specs, for starters. No backlit keyboard? Also kind of a dealkiller. How about nits? I'm guessing 250 so outdoor use is questionable. I have to also wonder about build quality, although I treat my laptops well so I'd be more worried about regular wear and tear and usage failure than being able to take some abuse. I'll probably wait till a laptop that doesn't have these issues is at a price I like, but at $400 this is certainly tempting, especially with that Chase 5% rewards promo.
