Yes, from the specs, Samsung is better (i7 vs i5, wifi 6e vs 6). Dell just does design and quality better. Audio on the XPS will be better, screen wobble will be less, keyboard and touchpad will feel better.

Don't forget AMEX $120 off $599. Makes it sweeter.

I forgot - touchscreen is of zero-worth to the apple camp.

Battery life for either will get you through that workday.

If you are using it as a work device, you recharge at the end of the day as a matter of course. Or, you can be that person looking to plug-in in class or at work in the middle of something. It's like a soldier clearing out a room and not changing to a new magazine but going on a partial mag.

If you can get a MacBook Air for $800 on sale, much better value. Unless you totally need Windows. Especially for students and video editing professionals the M1 does laps around these.
A m1 is a better productivity machine for students?

For students it'll do way more than Windows and runs iOS apps, and it'll get them through college with plenty of updates and future support. Runs mobile or desktop Microsoft apps as well flawlessly.

Also battery life is no contest between the XPS and M1. M1 blows it away. Lasting 3 and a half hours or more on battery tests.

ThinkPad. No comparison. You won't know until you use both though.

How do I get that AMEX deal? I think I have an active extra points from dell. By activating extra dell points, that makes it so I can't get better dell deals?

Some, myself included, do not have the Dell offer through Amex, but Chase is offering 5%. There is also a bonus cash back offer through another site that starts with R and ends with akuten.

For students only the battery life advantage matters. Windows vs Mac is fairly split in colleges and the vast majority will not tap into the actual potential of the laptops as most just run note taking apps, a browser, and PowerPoint. The Dell has native Ubuntu support and Windows Subsystem for Linux which makes it a better choice for most of the engineering/IT/Comp Sci students. Rest of the students yea probably the M1 MacBook is the better choice.
