Lowe's has the Metabo 21 Degree Framing Nailer kit for $399 with a free Brad Nailer kit. The Brad kit is $349. This isn't hackable but from what I've seen these are great tools. I've always had great experiences with Metabo tools in general.
I'm surprise I haven't seen that posted yet.

Both work great and are really handy. I used the framing nailer to put on some new roof sheathing on my house recently. Bump fire is pretty quick. Not quite as fast as a pneumatic but fast enough. Really nice not having to drag out the compressor, particularly indoors with the finish nailer.
I ended up selling most of my 20v DeWalt tools and moved over to metabo. Seem to find better deals on metabo tools at Lowes than DeWalt. I have some of the metabo 36v stuff now too and really like it. 36v batteries work on 18v tools as well.

If you can find them, it will shoot either, but I think the 0.131 start at 2 1/2" for Metabo and several others. .... As far as length, you will adjust with the nose gauge and air pressure if required. The range is stated from shortest to longest.
It will shoot any size between 2" to 3 1/2". If just nailing two 2x4's, you would probably use 3" so as not to have the nails sticking out the other side.
