Nice firepit, works well for 4-6 people, works well for grilling if your patient (charcoal/fire) style grilling. Battery works well, we baby ours and store /recharge often.
Rust on the pit has started 3 yrs later now. Plan to treat. Overall recommend. Very portable and awesome for beach or picnic setups
If you are in the LA area the Garage Sale Store in Manhattan Beach had stacks of these for $99 new in box.
FYI the fan pack is plastic and will melt by the heat if it's not on. Our friend melted theirs when the battery ran out. At least the battery didn't pop from the heat.

How bad is the rust? A bit concerning since you took care/stored it carefully. Wonder if customer service can take care of it. Considering this unit, since not quite sold on the solo stove bonfire concept of upward heat vs radiant heat on this unit.

Most fire pits I've seen rust. I think the fire destroys the powder coating.
Doesn't that only work when that store has a garage sale going? I.e. once a month?
In LA we have a Garage Sale Store. All stores in the area ship all their returns to this store. The entire store is Garage Sale items. They had to do this because of COVID restrictions and how crazy the store events get.
I get most of my stuff there. Gets restocked every morning.
I can already tell this thing is horrible. I'll start by pointint out it has 62% 5-star reviews. A potential buyer will not want this any more after seeing the pictures in the 1-star review area.
My own obervations. It uses a fan in a plastic case and a rechargabe battery. There's a new trend in BBQ grills to install a fan with a plastic case. Horrible design. If the fan stops it's going to melt down 100% of the time. If the grill is just running too hot for awhile it's going to melt down. Sometimes they use plastic fan blades. Jeez. It has a rechargable battery. Rechargabe batteries don't do well around heat. It doesn't even have to be high heat 200-700F. Rechargable batteries degrade at 'low' temperatures not much higher than 100F. The ambient temp around this fire pit is going to be more than what is good for a rechargable battery. To boot, the battery proably replaced with a universal battery. It probably cant be replaced with an over priced propreitary battery they sell for a price thats 70% the cost of the price you paid for the thing.
I don't trust those fold out feet. One reviewer said the whole thing warped when got too hot. He prrobably had the wood burning way too high before controlling it. Not good but it happens. I'm thinking the gauge of metal is lower than what would be reasonable. By looking at it the gauge doesn't seem adequate to prevent warping.
This is good if you drive to camping sites in a semi and want to use a one-time use fire thingie to impress your friends. Not for us real men that accidentally run our fire pit too hot time to time.

Cool thanks. It's been a minute since I've been to an Rei. I'm aware of the Manhattan beach store location but was not aware it had all the excess garage sale items there. Dunno if I need this as I've been looking at the solo Yukon series of stoves

It's in the same strip mall as the regular REI but completely separate on the other side of the mall.

Very surface type, likely will use grill paint and it will be fine structurally
