For a price reference, I paid $70 for 1200 mix lot virgin and non-virgin empty ink carts on eBay about 3 years ago. Of course, a lot has changed since then, but hoping prices will return to that.

I paid $9500 for a new pickup a while back. I too hope those prices will return soon. Please link us to a better deal as you thumbs down.
These have gotten so much more expensive than they once were. People who are giving this a thumbs down are clueless and just don't know the value of these.

Am I the only one wondering what the deal is about! May be I am...
Office Depot and Staples offers $2 per ink cartridge recycled, with certain program guidelines. OD has a 10 per month limit. Staples also has a 10 per month limit, with certain program levels having a 20 per month limit.
The cost to participate in the OD program is about $10 a month, though there are ways to get that money back too. The cost to participate in the Staples program works out to be about $6 a month, but with that you're getting two fresh ink cartridges every 13 months.
So 450 cartridges can equal $900 worth of product - or more - at OD and Staples.
I just read the Office Depot terms for the program. There is a minimum $10 purchase that must be made in the same transaction when recycling up to 10 ink catridges.
Staples also has says there is a minimum purchase, unless you purchased $30 or more in ink/toner in the past 180 days.
Can you use the rewards on the next month's purchase to qualify? If so, I can net $120 per year at OD?
I guess I should search to learn more.

Definitely do your research, I don't think anything purchased with rewards at OD qualifies for ANYTHING. A good example are the overpriced duracell batteries with 100% back in rewards offered frequently. They do not qualify if purchased with rewards or even with an OD giftcard.

I didn't know about it either. But then again, I rarely shop at these overpriced stores and being a true SD cheapskate I don't buy ink cartridges. I've been refilling the same canon cartridges for 3+ years. Don't feel too bad.
