This isn't new, but you have to read the comments of other deals to find it - to me, the whole point of Slickdeals is to make crystal clear how to score a really great price. Slickdealer Riiot was the first to comment on this in the existing WD 850 deal post. If this info has value to you, give Riiot, not me, credit - click on following link, click on Riiot's name to the left, give reputation.

Take an old storage device you don't care about to Best Buy, use the recycling offer (second link) to get 15% off on the WD SN850 when you pick it up. The SN850 is already on Black Friday offer for $150 to that takes the price down to $127.50 plus tax. Folks have been successful turning in old thumbdrives, but you could take in an old broken 2.5 or 3.5 HDD, etc.

This isn't for everyone - it's for those who really need/want a great deal.

Warning, Best Buy's process for this is reportedly really slow, many stores don't seem to know about it and will seek to deflect, to avoid, etc. Take in a copy of the recycling offer or have it ready to show them on your phone, etc. You will need to be persistent and it will be time consuming. But the prize is a 1TB top-of-the-line NVME SSD for $127.50 (plus tax), which, yes, does work for PS5.

You can do this with other WD/SanDisk SSDs, a couple sample links below.

Quote from SamQ :
Silly question but can I order it online, visit the store to recycle, then have them price adjust for the 15% so I don't end up going to a store without the SN850?

Also can we recycle USB thumb drives?
I did this in September the last time the sn850 was on sale. I ordered it for store pickup. I showed up with an old cheap thumb drive. Two workers didn't know anything about the 15% recycling program coupon. A manager told me I couldn't use a thumb drive and that it had to be an actual hard drive. I drove home, grabbed an older 2.5" laptop hdd, and went back. Another manager was helping me, and had a very hard time finding the recycling coupon, even after I showed her their website on my phone. She was real nice, so after 20 minutes, she just did a manual override and manually did a 15% refund back to my credit card. Hearing others being able to use a thumb drive to recycle is nice, but ymmv.

This is a complete hassle and I'm not sure if it's worth all that trouble. Someone else told me that you can bring a microsd card and still get the coupon... this is not true. Also, the people in the store don't know about this coupon so it's going to be a lot of waiting. I decided that it's not worth my time to go through all this hassle for $30.

ymmv with a flash drive. They wouldn't take a usb from me in September. I had to go back home and grab an old 2.5" hdd.

I'm going to try this, but head's up, it does give this disclaimer on the coupon page: "Not available in all locations and some stores may have additional limitations."

It's clearly one per customer.

Wouldn't it be far better to get a 2tb for 200? Like a 970 Evo from Samsung?

Tried it, they told me it doesn't work for this drive. Apparently it showed as 0 for the discount, or so they told me. In Brooklyn, NY.

Not worth the headache or mental anguish to be honest. I wasted my time and effort and they wouldn't budge.

I tried to do it at one store, they said the sale price is already low and they can't override it..weird
Same thing happened to me. Later, I called customer service and they said yeah, that should work. Go back to store and they should honor the deal. I replied: I already spent 1 hour to go to store and another 30 minute on the phone with you, and I already wasted more time than the savings could possibly get me, I'm not going back yet another time. She said fair enough, I'll transfer you to another associate and they will give you discount for your trouble and ship the drive. And then I was transferred into a void.

Tl,Dr: don't waste your time unless you work for below minimum wage

I got this last time. This drive doesn't have AES encryption, so if you need that, look elsewhere.

I got a pile of old IDE drives that I was waiting to simply recycle at some point.
They've been DOD wiped so it's just a matter of time.
