It keeps changing price.
I am logging in through Lifemart which offers discounts through my health insurance. Like Perks. But now the student discount disappeared. It appeared for a minute. But then disappeared and cant get it back
This is using build your own and Lifemart (have through Aetna) and eCoupon THINKBLACKFRIDAY, cant get EPP to combine even though it showed at one moment bring price down another $60 - no other codes work and prices change if I open new window, etc.
I did keep SSD at 256gb b/c I just put a Samsung 980 1TB NVMe in my old pc and figured Id swap it
Again, not sure what I am missing. I can get similar laptop still with 32gb instead of 16 but with only 256gb hard drive for around same price, $60 more but I added IR camera, touch and $13 for onsite 1 year, I'd rather have 32 than hard drive because hard drive is swappable

Also, cash back doesn't work if you go through your employer portal or perks at work etc., so there goes another 12%.
Another thing to keep in mind is that for most people buying these laptops, 32GB may be a bit of an overkill. It's good to have, but 16GB is a good enough configuration. I can see pairing a workstation class CPU like an AMD 5900HX/5800H (or even a 5800u) with good thermals with 32GB RAM for an ultimate desktop replacement laptop, but a laptop like the X1C is not built for top CPU performance, and the i7 CPU in it is not what you would want in a desktop replacement, and even that CPU cannot operate at peak performance due to insufficient cooling.
You would also need to pay about $100 more for a decent 1TB SSD, so add that to the price.
I think the doorbuster config hits the sweet spot for this laptop, and combined with the reasons above, it usually sells out in a minute whenever it goes on sale.
For people who can wait a few months for a laptop, it makes sense to wait for the new CPU announcements from Intel and AMD in Jan. The next generation of CPUs will be a huge leap over the current gen, so it makes sense to wait if you can. Intel's Alder Lake CPUs are looking good, and AMD will be launching Zen3+ with RDNA2, which will lead to a huge jump in graphics performance in laptops with integrated graphics.
Unless you absolutely need a laptop right now, I'd say wait for early next year. The CPU announcements are usually accompanied with laptop launch announcements as well. At the very least, that will help put downward pressure on the prices of the current gen, and at worst, the new CPUs will make the current gen 1165G7 etc. look like dinosaurs.

I feel like there is always something better around the corner.

For people who absolutely need a laptop right now, this doorbuster deal offered a pretty good entry price into an X1C. And if you really need a laptop right now, waiting 3+ months is not an option anyways.
To answer your question: Most computer manufacturers announce new computers when Intel announces new CPUs. When they will ship those laptops depends on a lot of factors, of course.
