Great deal on an entry level 5.0 surround sound system with decent reviews from a reputable 3rd party seller:

Same boat here, I actually bought:
Jamo Studio Series S 803 in White (from this thread) off Amazon for $239
Jamo C 912 Subwoofer in White off Amazon for $219
Jamo S 8 ATM in White off eBay for $175

Now I've just learned the $239 Studio Series S 803 set comes with the S 81 center, whereas the $399 Adorama S 809 set comes with S 83 center ( https://slickdeals.net/f/15458212-jamo-speakers-jamo-s-809-pair-jamo-s-801-pair-jamo-s-83-black-399-free-s-h-at-adorama ).

The S 81 costs $89 vs. $114 for S 83 (difference $25).
The S 809 are floorstanding speakers and cost $359 vs $139 for S 803 (difference $220)

For $160 price difference, you get $245 worth of upgrades. If you have an Amex card you might also have an Amex offer for $25 back when you spend $250 at Adorama (which I do) so that brings my cost down another $25 to $135 additional for the upgrade.

I have now purchased the Adorama set as well; I plan to do a mix-match.

Living room:
S 809 Front Left/Right (Black) + S 8 ATM Atmos (White)
S 83 Center (Black)
C 912 Sub (White)
S 803 Surround Left/Right (White)
Onkyo TX-NR6050 Receiver

Master bedroom:
S 801 Front Left/Right (White)
S 81 Center (White)
S 801 Surround Left/Right (Black)
Existing Sub (Black)
Denon AVR-S530BT Receiver

Nice, I bought the $399 set. In process of finishing my basement so I have a few weeks to shop for a receiver.

Looking for something with 4k 120 for Xbox series x. Outside of that, I guess I want to buy a 7.1 so I can add the atmos upfiring speakers. Do you think they are worth it?
Any recommendations for a receiver? Seems like you get what you pay for and damn the prices are high.

I'm no audiophile but check out the 7.2ch Onkyo TX-NR6050 for $499. It just released at Costco this week apparently. Has tons of ports.

Sorry this is the deal I was talking about to wait for.

Yes it's a bit of a price hike going after the latest tech.
Those upfiring speakers performance will widely person to person.

IMO I don't think you will get that big a difference worth the much extra cost.

You could easily pick up a slightly older receiver/openbox or even buy a used one for much much cheaper and get good performance.

I think two selling points of the newer receivers is eARC and 8k pass thru. Beyond that you get wireless internet by default in many of them, and Ethernet in almost all these days. Firmware updates are easier than ever.

Good point if those are features you need now then you may need to buy the latest.
My point was it may not pay off for Atmos sound upgrade only.

Having heard both, unless you can't/won't have the space for towers, the Adorama deal would give you better performance worth the extra cost IMO.

As a matter of fact if you can wait for the deal that doesn't include the sub for less would be even better, especially if you already have a sub.

I'd go for some entry level RSL's

It might be helpful to post where someone can get a 5.0 RSL speaker package for $399.

I purchased this (white) in November for $239, 3rd party. Shipped and received within 4 days. I had been kind of watching for a while with no price variation.

For those wondering about the sound - excellent. I have used Daytons, Micca, Energy, Sony, and Polks. These are my overall favorites (some of that might be the looks and newness). I am 2/3 movie, 1/3 music. I am not going to pretend I know a lot a about speakers, but these fill the room and make movie watching super enjoyable.

They are very crisp with dialogue and have energized sound. My wife even commented on how excellent they sound (and look)….that was huge.

Someday I would like to upgrade to something like Paradigm's, but I am very pleased with this set and will keep them for a while.

What did you pair it with
Receiver? SUB?
