I can't figure out what you would use this for, being so narrow. Suggestions?
Electric hand planers are mostly useful for shaving the bottom or edge of a door to fit a doorway. Not being a door installer, I've never been able to pull the trigger on one of these, since most things they can do *besides* doors can be done better with a thickness planer or jointer.

Doors. Lumber such as taking rounded edged 2x6, and making it flat for Glue up.
A corded version can be put into a jig and give you a mini jointer.
Personally, a power hand planer is a great tool. None of the cordless are very good though.
The makita is not bad for a corded hand planer, but the Bosch is exceptional.
Just make sure you get the good Bosch corded hand planer. The PL1632 is HORRIBLE!!! The PL2632 is god tier.
It's smooth, and uses a small carbide blade that can be reversed when dull, and easily replaced. I just bought a lifetime supply for $30 (four extra blades, 8 new sides).
Hopefully one day someone makes a better cordless model. I've tried every one, I've ever heard of, and they either bog down, or burn out really quickly. Planers take a lot of power to function without bogging down. So until that day comes, I'll be using the 2632.

I've been waiting for a while to get a planer. It isn't a high priority so I've just been casually watching for something. But it's certainly a tool that being cordless does not seem a high priority… power seems more important. I'm gonna take your advice and go for the 2632.

My cordless planer (Dewalt) came in handy when I did a vinyl fence that slipped over 4x4s. The fence wasn't buried in ground, it was on a patio and I used Simpson 4x4 brackets against concrete. When I zipped screws thru the bracket and into the wood, the vinyl posts wouldn't slip over. I planed off probably an 1/8" off the posts on the two bracket sides and then the vinyl posts slipped over.
Worked great for that.

It's money well spent.
I wish I had bought one sooner... My old... OLLLLD Red Makita planer was doing the job, but I had to do a lot of sanding afterwards 😅. The Bosch is so crisp and clean.

I am in need of a power planer so thanks for this. The dewalt cordless does not seem to have good reviews due to build quality, and I figure they need a lot of power.
Why is the 2632 so much better than the 1632? They have the same motor and look similar. 2632 can use two blades though?
The Bosch is better than Makita?
Edit: Ordered a 2632.
