To answer your question, yes there is a toggle in the drop down menu to turn this into an Echo Show, which is pretty cool to have a tablet and Show in one.
I have a Samsung wireless stand that charges my Fire HD 8 Plus and it works great (I think most wireless chargers would work.
I am thinking of getting the new Mac Mini, but the Fire HD 8 Plus is doing everything I need:
Alexa news in the morning
YouTube videos in bed
WOD Timer while working out (Great big screen to see Tabata/AMRAP/Timer)
