"Much of the world has been taught that the holiday marks the birth of the Christian savior, Jesus Christ, but that's simply wrong. ... The two most notable pagan winter holidays were Germanic Yule and Roman Saturnalia. Christian missionaries gave these holidays a makeover and they are now known to us as Christmas."
Just wondering where all these traditions come from? Ugly sweater, Santa and a few others. These are definitely not Christian traditions.
We'll I'll let someone else go on a tirade but:

Paganism, and capitalism. We get all the current Santa and Rudolph imagery from Coke and Montgomery Ward.

There are a lot of holiday traditions much older than the Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. What we now call "Christmas" trees are actually an ancient pagan winter solstice tradition that was co-opted by Christian missionaries.

Capitalism is just the systemic worship of profit so I'd be shocked if there was anything that didn't get corporatized.
At its core Christianity is the worship of a radical socialist rabbi who died 2,000 years ago and in a lot of ways it's entirely antithetical to Capitalism.

That's correct, the reason for asking is to see the input.
And you're correct, I watched the documentary and pagan and idol worshippers tradition are older than Abrahamic religions. Lots of these traditions continuous even after their conversion to one of these Abrahamic religions. But, In Christianity, the Church in order to keep these pagans connect with the religion more and in order to keep them engage, change the names of their traditions and made it Christian.
I guess, I watched the documentary on Smithonian Channel or National Geography not sure, but, it was really good two hour documentary.
Got the Animal crossing sweater for my wife and got myself the Boba Fett one. They came in yesterday and the wife was super happy. Would highly recommend.
