5 minutes to midnight (deal ends) and then you tell us??
They can detect a network share and won't back it up unfortunately. If you mount as iSCSI, it works but my Synology won't show files on it in it's file browser this way so you get it one way or the other.

Also one thing to note is any drive that doesn't get files written to it frequently, even if it's internal, is considered archival and will be considered "unplugged" and will have its data removed after 30 days, not just external drives. I have some old drives that hold old data or photos that don't get viewed and I have to remember to add a file to those drives. Got tired of doing that every 25-30 days and paid for the 1 year retention. For the stress and time it saves, $24/yr extra was worth it for me.
I am a current subscriber and have been for years. I could not find any method to pay for future service using the discount. Now that it's a publicly traded company, they can start treating us like we're nothing.

That's a really good question and unfortunately I haven't tried that, sorry overall for the price, I think Backblaze is pretty great. Just keep in mind they don't do a seed backup drive, so it may take a while for your initial backup to complete depending on your upload speeds. I have over 10TB backed up with them, and it took forever (~3-4 months nonstop) for the initial upload of around 6TB when I started w/ a 10mbps upload...

Edit: Saw your other message. Sorry it wasn't clear at first, was trying to send a response quickly to help folks make a decision since time was running out ;D

Also, FYI as an existing customer, I thought I'd be able to try to get the offer, but Backblaze doesn't have a review page for the purchase if you're logged in. I added 2 licenses and click "buy" as a logged in customer, you get charged immediately... not too happy about the UX of that and now I have 2 unused licensed I need refunded
What is your internet upload speed? does backblaze cap upload speed? what's the max upload speed backblaze allow?

Does this work for existing customers? I'm not seeing any way to extend my sub / buy more credits

You can request an external drive to be delivered, I actually just did this. They charge you $189 and you have 30 days to return the drive, once returned, you are reimbursed (minus shipping back fees).

I bought a cheaper drive to shuck, chose the directories I wanted on the website, ordered the restore drive, copied over data… then in the Backblaze program, just select the new drive and it'll detect it as the old one because of the hash on each file.

However, the current limit is 8 TB; they've hinted that since going public, there would be increases, though it's all a waiting game.

If it's a new computer, you just transfer the license over. Their website has many help articles for nearly every scenario.
Thanks very helpful. Could you order two 8TB drives for $189 each and then send them back?

When I did it, it asked me if I was an existing customer or a new one. I was a new one and selected to create a new account but there was an option indeed to proceed with the purchase with an existing account.

Maybe try opening a incognito/private browser window and without signing-in start the process of buying it and see if that works.

Yes, though you're limited to 5 returned drives every 12 months per account.

I tried and saw that, but it looked like it was buying a license for an additional computer, rather than an extension

Saw this too, almost bit the bullet, sadly it seems like existing customers can't renew.

One last question. Is the data uploaded to Backblaze through this application encrypted? In other words, on their servers is encrypted? Or a Backblaze employee with sufficient system permissions could access the files?

Similar to what happen with G-Mail and that google employee that was reading other people's emails.

Can confirm, existing customers purchase more licenses at full price, nowhere to input coupon code and also no confirmation. In the process of reaching to support for a refund of 2 licenses I didn't intend to buy Stick Out Tongue

I'm on symmetrical gigabit now so I get speedtest results around 900-950mbps for both download and upload. Backblaze says they do not cap upload speeds and you can specify the number of threads depending on your computer's performance. I haven't had to upload massive amounts of data since I switched to gigabit though and never had to pay attention to it after my initial massive backup of around 6TB (I'm at 10TB+ today backed up with them).

The transfers are encrypted and you can also specify a private encryption key which is not stored and will prevent anyone on their side from viewing or retrieving your data if you forget or lose the key. They're pretty clear about it when you try to add the Private encryption key in the application too.

What the hell i'm a current customer and this is the first i've heard of this. My subscription ends next week. This is no doubt a coupon only for new customers and trick then into paying normal price when they forget their subscription. Backblaze lost a lot of customers recently.

They raised the price twice within the past year within claims of storage prices increasing, but prices had gone back to how they were in 2018 and they still kept their subscription prices higher. Excuses and excuses. I am switching to Carbonite because Backblaze offers nothing with their price increase while Carbonite offers unlimited storage for $34/year. Sick of Backblaze's bullshit. And it's because of Backblaze and their bloody archaic program that one of my brand new SSDs are already at 95% health. Price increases and they're still using the same trashy backup program from 2017.
