5 minutes to midnight (deal ends) and then you tell us??
They can detect a network share and won't back it up unfortunately. If you mount as iSCSI, it works but my Synology won't show files on it in it's file browser this way so you get it one way or the other.

Also one thing to note is any drive that doesn't get files written to it frequently, even if it's internal, is considered archival and will be considered "unplugged" and will have its data removed after 30 days, not just external drives. I have some old drives that hold old data or photos that don't get viewed and I have to remember to add a file to those drives. Got tired of doing that every 25-30 days and paid for the 1 year retention. For the stress and time it saves, $24/yr extra was worth it for me.
I am a current subscriber and have been for years. I could not find any method to pay for future service using the discount. Now that it's a publicly traded company, they can start treating us like we're nothing.

I purchased for myself. Were people able to buy it as a gift using the code earlier?
I just bought 2 licenses and it worked with a new account, I don't know, I just assumed a license was a license, apparently not.

Mine was just about to renew from a previous Black Friday purchase. In order to get the deal, I bought two new licenses and deleted my two previous ones. It means those computers lost their 30-day backup history and will have to do a fresh upload, but worth it to save $130 over two years.

Is it possible to purchase 2 and simply not activate the 2nd one until the 1st has expired? Yes, it would be a hassle to upload your data again for the 2nd activation, but maybe worth it for folks who don't have a huge amount to backup.

Disconnected External Hard Drives

Your external hard drives need to be connected to your computer and scanned by Backblaze at least once every 30 days in order to keep them backed up
Not if you pay an extra $2 a month to retain file versions for a year I believe

Can you explain this a little more? Did you have to make a new account? I have almost 80tb of data backed up and trying to figure out how to take advantage of this deal.

Still alive. Have been using carbonite and will try this. Carbonite is incredibly slow to restore. 200GB took a month on a fast connection. Anyone with restore speed experience with black blaze?

What if you buy a new computer? Can you authorize the files on the new computer so they aren't deleted without needing to reupload?
Yes, you can.

Now if only backblaze would allow this offer for current subscribers Mad

So only Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage works for synology nas (linux distro) with Hyper Backup? (as mentioned in the link above?)
idrive works w/ Synology. Used it for years. Directly runs on the NAS. Now it's not unlimited but I think it was like $5 for the first year (5TB) and I upped it to 10 TB for another $5 so $10 for two years can't go wrong and they have edu 50% discount. They also let you keep your own encryption keys so I keep any real data backed up there.

Hate the fact that running a Windows Server OS excludes you from 'Personal backup' plans... or at least installing the client... I don't suppose anyone knows a non-janky way around this?

This is what I am worried about, I won't need to backup an external drive often. Heck, I won't even need to backup an internal drive that often. But I would like something to backup a couple times a year without any hassle
Missing or deleted files are kept for 30 days however if you don't run any backups the data is kept for 6 months until you have to check in. The important thing with external drives is they must be plugged in when you run the backup to reset the 30 days. If you just don't run the program every few months you will be fine within 6 months.

I currently have about 30 TB worth of data on a synology nas, that I have no back up for.

I just bought 3 14TB external drives as a backup but something like an online backup would be nice, encrypted of course

What would be the best cost effective online storage option for my use?
ICloud is great for this. They fully support NAS backups, I have two synology NAS' that I backup. I got 10T for two years for $150. They even have a native synology app that backs up directly to the cloud. My only real complaint with them is that it can be a little slow. But for $150 for two years, I can deal with that. Sorry not to thread crap on backblaze. I hear they offer a good service, just beyond my personal budget.

Wondering about making one of my externals and/or a raspberry pi into a networked drive... then have computers in the house backup important files to that, then have a batch file automatically (or by X time every day via scheduled task) copy those files to a drive on my computer, then back that up to Backblaze.

I wouldn't be a heavy data user though. This would probably be like school/work stuff. Maybe some pictures and a few GB of video to offload from my parents' phones
