I have both the Keyboard Folio and the Magic Keyboard. I like both. I also have and hate a Zagg Messenger Folio. A few comparison points:

Keyboard Folio:

Super slim and super lightweight. You'd hardly notice the extra dimensions.
Squishy keys don't bother me at all. An occasional post as long as this is about as much as I'd ever type anyway.
Keyboard flips over entirely out of the way if you just want to hold it by hand, or prop it up against something. Therefore equally happy in portrait orientation.
Doesn't offer any drop protection.
The rubberized plastic shows signs of wear where you grip it within a few months, especially if you're in a hot environment.

Magic Keyboard

Noticeably bulkier and heavier. Nearly triples the thickness of the iPad.
Illuminated keys are the big win for me, especially if I know I'll be in a dark location.
The keys themselves are harder, but I can't say I prefer them to the squishy ones on the Folio. Again, I don't type much using a tablet.
The keyboard does not fold out of the way. This is only an issue if I want to use portrait orientation. The Folio is better for this.
The trackpad feels kinda pointless to me. My finger is an inch from the screen, so I just use that. For more precise work I'll use a Pencil anyway.
There's a little more protection for the back and the face.

I personally find the viewing angle just fine with both keyboards.

Zagg Messenger Folio

Bulkier, with much more protection. But so much bulkier that the biggest protection is that you'll never leave home with your iPad.
Older versions, compatible with my 2018 iPad Pro 11, are currently available at about $12 from Amazon. [amazon.com]


All that being said, you'd think I prefer the Folio. In fact, I mostly use the Magic Keyboard. Even though I don't type much text on either keyboard, I find the backlit keys on the Magic Keyboard to be helpful.

But both are good keyboards, and at $99, the Keyboard Folio is a steal.

I picked one up for the wifey a month ago and I would disagree. The keys are tactile enough for the purpose and while they have some "play" they are under a membrane and will last quite some time as a result of not having to get under them to clean. It a tradeoff I'm sure and you should check it out for yourself, but I ended up ordering one for myself as a result. I have been using the Logitech Pro folio and that has stopped working over a few years (seems to be a physical disconnect of the keypaths on the mainboard ) works when I flex the kb.

The naming convention is confusing on the 11" Pro. The latest 12.9" Pro is considered 5th generation. But the latest 11" Pro is considered 3rd generation (and not 5th like its bigger brother).

The Magic Keyboard lost a lot of its uhh magic when they introduced Bluetooth mouse support to the iPad. Before then, if you wanted a non-touchscreen experience it was the Magic Keyboard or nothing.

So these days I'd recommend grabbing one of these Folios and a Bluetooth mouse. Less bulky, a better experience overall, and more flexible. Do lookup the Bluetooth mouse setup experience though, it isn't what you expect (e.g. just add it via the normal Bluetooth tab in Settings) and is clunky. It is good once setup initially though.

I tried this keyboard a while back and the mushy keys killed me on speed and accuracy. I have the Apple Folio cover that folds to prop up my ipad, but you can also pay the ipad down on the folded folio cover which elevates it at about a 25 degree angle from your table. Oriented like this and using the on screen keyboard I can type much faster and accurately after all, so saved over a hundred bucks lol. Try it out if you have the plain old apple Folio Cover or another brand in a similar style, might work out for you if you only occasionally type on your ipad!
