I usually buy the latest stuff but in this case I'm not even sure I need the watch to begin with so $300 instead of $400+ makes more sense for me. I don't see anything in the 7 that I'd miss. If I like the watch I'll probably just sell it in a year and get the latest at that time. If I buy cheap enough I won't lose much money doing this.

The internals on the 6 and 7 are exactly the same except for the slightly faster charging (but not longer lasting) battery. On the outside the difference is the larger screen but the benefit is marginal. A 6 at this price is a good deal.

A 1mm bigger screen and more scratch-resistant front glass aren't really all that "new tech". Even the CPU is the same across the 2 generations.
