Target gift cards are not returnable or refundable.

Entire 10% off $500 gift card offer must be used in one transaction
.
This will stack with Discover card 5% back for Target.com or if another credit card has cb % back for Target
This will not stack with target redcard 5% off

You cannot buy other gift cards with Target gift card
You cannot buy prepaid phone cards with Target gift card
If using a card other than target redcard you will get additional 1% back (as a savings award)

Your comment cannot be blank.

yes with discover 5%. been doing this every year
This deal is not as good as I thought. There is no 5% Red Card discount. When you use Target GC, you only get 5% Red Card discount for the amount you charged to it. So essentially you are only getting 5% more compared to just charge using your Red Card.

Was the original $200 card a physical gift card or digital via email?
Quote from dampier :
Hackers use tools to sequentially check GC numbers and the PINs that go with them, but the lowest hanging fruit is getting the numbers off physical cards, reapplying scratch off paint, and then constantly checking those numbers and deplete the funds as soon as the card goes active. All you need at the fulfillment center is one or more dishonest employees to sell those numbers on. We are not talking about resold GCs either. These were shipped direct from Target. I have seen at least 50 stories of customers losing huge on $100-500 gift cards they bought (or were gifted). We are not talking about GCs picked off the rack in a store either. When they went to use them after Target shipped them, they were 0 balance. Target could even see that they were used by someone in another state, but tough luck. The credit card chargeback was also unsuccessful because Target's T&C on gift card purchases makes all the risks your own. If Target can prove it loaded the GC, they met their terms. If the card is depleted, even before you get it, that is entirely on the customer. Unless you are using it this month, it's a risk.
Just checked it out.
Online Gift Cards
The barcode can be scanned at the store using a picture barcode (on a cell phone) or printed.
This seems to eliminate the need to tie the online gift card to an account
Does this reduce the chance of fraud?

Target App offers a "Combine Gift Card" so you can merge multiple gift cards into one, not sure if it generates a new series of numbers that's not in the hands of scammers

It does not. It seems to merge it into the first slot, so you could remove all gift cards and purchase a small digital gift card first to get a new unique number before adding and combining.

I prefer the Amazon and Bed Bath and Beyond method of loading gift cards into account funds rather than retaining numbers, but account hijacks are still common enough that this isn't perfectly safe either.

Thanks OP. Was able to return and rebuy 2 PS5's from Thursday with 2 gift cards using two target circle accounts today. Saved $100.
I was told by folks at Target instore that since PS5 only sold online if I return it then I may not able to rebuy it instore! Because of this I held back and didn't do return/rebuy yet!

you'll be fine, get a supervisor or something. It just takes a day after you pickup for the computer to let you return rebuy on the spot. Either try a different target with more experienced workers or wait till a new set of employees is working up front. Just say "accidentally ordered without realizing my gift card didn't apply, can I repurchase it with the card" and they'll scan the barcode and serial number, refund the money and then scan the gift card and whatever payment method your gonna use to pay the difference.

Just got this email:

Quote :
Sorry, we may have sent you empty, additional Target GiftCards

Hi [NAME],

Due to a vendor issue, your recent gift card purchase may have arrived (or will arrive) with additional gift cards that have no value. Rest assured, the gift card you intended to purchase contains the correct amount and can be used securely in stores or on Target.com.

To determine which card has a value, be sure to check the balance before using them by visiting https://www.target.com/guest/gift-card-balance or calling 1-800-544-2943.

We're sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. Thank you for shopping at Target.
We were initially sent $200 of duplicate/extra gift cards.

Since I wished to give this gift to someone in a physical card, I ordered a physical gift card, just like I did last year.

Just like last year, the order took a week to ship, and then sat in the USPS location for 3 weeks. The "tracking" number Target uses is one that they tell you right up front isn't one that can't be tracked using the USPS tracking. So, apparently they use some kind of alternative tracking?

Since this happened 2 times in 2 years, it seems to be something is lacking in the process.

I don't see any people complaining about this issue here, so I assume this hasn't happened to others?

Same problem - I never received mine. I personally suspect they are hung up at a presorter used by Target, and the post office doesn't even have them yet. After a couple of frustrating phone calls, Target agreed to refund the order and cancel out the GCs. The few other options they offered as a "resolution" were ridiculous.

But then you lose out on the 10% discount! I had them issue me a new card, and it will be sent within 7 business days. I complained about the multiple calls needed to do this, with hold times needed, for this the second year of this, and they kicked in an e-gift card for $10.
