Online Gift Cards
The barcode can be scanned at the store using a picture barcode (on a cell phone) or printed.
This seems to eliminate the need to tie the online gift card to an account
Does this reduce the chance of fraud?
Yeah me too. I have $850 left from last deal
Target App offers a "Combine Gift Card" so you can merge multiple gift cards into one, not sure if it generates a new series of numbers that's not in the hands of scammers
I prefer the Amazon and Bed Bath and Beyond method of loading gift cards into account funds rather than retaining numbers, but account hijacks are still common enough that this isn't perfectly safe either.
I have, that's where it requires a password.

Hi [NAME],
Due to a vendor issue, your recent gift card purchase may have arrived (or will arrive) with additional gift cards that have no value. Rest assured, the gift card you intended to purchase contains the correct amount and can be used securely in stores or on Target.com.
To determine which card has a value, be sure to check the balance before using them by visiting https://www.target.com/guest/gift-card-balance or calling 1-800-544-2943.
We're sorry for any inconvenience this has caused. Thank you for shopping at Target.
Just like last year, the order took a week to ship, and then sat in the USPS location for 3 weeks. The "tracking" number Target uses is one that they tell you right up front isn't one that can't be tracked using the USPS tracking. So, apparently they use some kind of alternative tracking?
Since this happened 2 times in 2 years, it seems to be something is lacking in the process.
I don't see any people complaining about this issue here, so I assume this hasn't happened to others?
