Got mine yesterday, this is a cheap plastic shell for a cheap plastic tablet, nothing more and nothing less. If I was keeping my 10e, which I'm not, I'd probably keep it but I would not categorize this as anything more that a plastic shell with small but fat bumpers on each corner. $10 is the right price, shouldn't be the sale price though.
I found the chrome book duet for $99 at Walmart, got two of those. So it's just like the 10e but slimmer and includes keyboard.
Plus the magnetic kickstand and much louder speakers in comparison. I did the same, zero regrets losing a little bit of ruggedness and a headphone jack.

How bad are the speakers on the 10e? I have the Duet and it's great. I'd love to get a 10e for my kid but not sure how bad the speakers are.

bad is relative to what you're already used to, i would categorize the sound output as a budget smartphone at best. Not silent but not very audible if there is a conversation going on in the same living room. A kid is not really going to notice unless they're accustomed to a device this is replacing, I would still recommend it for a kid but with the recommendation that you invest in wired headphones as a secondary gift.

Why are you returning the 10e? Just curious
