SiriusXM is offering 3-year and 5-year deals for inactive radios, though I'm not sure of the exact details of which radios qualify. Streaming is included in the plans. The plan is the "XM Music & Entertainment" plan.

The 3-year deal is for $99, while the 5-year deal is $149. Each gets the 21.4% royalty fee plus local sales taxes added. Neither plan automatically renews.

This offer came in the mail. It listed my radio ID and an account #, which I plugged in to https://siriusxm.com/3yeardeal.

Royalty fee is a false advertisement scam. No other online music providers charge it. I run as fast as I can once I hear it.
They want new customers to show growth. Obviously you keep renewing so there's no need to send you a discount offer.
Looking a little further, it appears this offer will only be extended to radios in cars that have not had a subscription for 5 years. So that means that unless your car is a 2015 model or older (considering that most cars with a sirius/xm radio also have a free subscription for a good chunk of time which would have to run out), your car radio is pretty much automatically disqualified from this promotion.

Essentially, the service is tied to a radio and not to a user - like Spotify is. If you have a portable radio that moves between cars, it will work. If both cars have fixed radios, you will need one sub per radio.
If you have modern cars with Android Auto/Apple Carplay, or at least with Bluetooth, then you can just listen to SiriusXM on your phone and pipe it to your car. No need for multiple subscriptions if you own multiple cars.

The thing is, my life won't end if I don't have SiriusXM in the car.

So I am always 100% willing to walk away if I don't get the ~$60/year deal. And even though sometimes they will say it's not available, at the last second they miraculously find it. I've never (yet) had to actually cancel and let it expire. But I would if necessary.

But it is a major hassle to have to call every year.
Yup I've found it easier just to totally cancel wait a day then sign up again. Last time I asked for the currently $4.99 a month I had on my other car nope best deal now was $5.99 for the new car so thanks cancel, turned around an 1 hr later and activated the $4.99 plan. A buck is a buck can't listen to 2 cars at the same time!!

And the new $5.99 was the regular plan, the after cancelled plan for $4.99 a month plan was the platinum plan............

Really hate how deals are only ever for people who are not customers. Despite my insistence, my wife has continued to be a customer for about 10 years, now. The only deal we ever see is 1 year for about $99, which comes out to be about $120 after fees and taxes.
You have to find a deal online and tell them you want it. Sometimes they will give it to you on the first try, but other times you have to threaten to cancel before they offer. I got $5 a month for the past two years by just threatening to leave. They really, really don't want you to leave so they will give in.

I have Sirus/XM active on 1 of my cars and then stream from my phone app whenever I am driving one of rhe other cars. Unlimited data on the phones, so all is good.

This. There are several types of customers who use satellite radio. I use it purely as a cheap streaming service - I'm not sure I've used the satellite delivery method in years, because the audio quality is such trash. It sounds 10 times better streamed over 4G/5G, and less drop outs as well.

I also have Spotify, but the channel format of XM is great for music discovery or simply wanting to listen to a few hours of say, Christmas jazz without having to build a playlist. XM seems to do a pretty good job of curating those channels, and I appreciate that for $5/month.

It's generally not fun, but if you end up calling their customer service you can talk them in to 6 months for $25-30...problem is you have to do it every 6 months.
edit: they will likely say "We can give you a free month!" but not say that it goes up to a hiked price after. Or even offer a free radio to keep you on.

This thread actually jogged my memory so I logged into my wifes account to see if I can change/chat/cancel through there and it said a better rate was available for 12 months at $60...but for some reason there are like multiple subscriptions now under the account so going to give it a couple days to see if it clears up and then call if not.

Don't even have to do that anymore. Their automated phone bot will give you $5 per month if you tell it you want to cancel

Hmmmmm. I have been getting it for $5 a month, but still active. I may call about this. Does it stay with teh car or can you switch cars?

I did this deal a few years ago. I called and told the rep I was planning on buying a new car. She assured me it would transfer. I went from a 2004 Acura MDX to a 2016 Honda Pilot. The plan would not transfer because when the mdx was built it was a different platform or something. They did refund me the unused portion of what I paid but I would have rather the 4.5 years left transferred.
