Lifetime subscriptions were like you said until a class action lawsuit changed things. They are now retroactively available for transfers between radios. The suit applied to all past subscriptions.
Still, at the time, it wasn't that great of a deal. I would have happily paid (what was it, $500?) for it if I knew I could take it anywhere I went until the end of time.

The thing is, my life won't end if I don't have SiriusXM in the car.

So I am always 100% willing to walk away if I don't get the ~$60/year deal. And even though sometimes they will say it's not available, at the last second they miraculously find it. I've never (yet) had to actually cancel and let it expire. But I would if necessary.

But it is a major hassle to have to call every year.
For years we never actually had to cancel, but 2 of the last 3 times I called to "fake cancel" as we call it, I had to actually cancel. In both cases I was invited back via email/snail mail within a week so I don't really get why they bother pretending they aren't going to give me the same deal.

Does their music still sound like streaming from dial-up?
Yes. It's trash, I don't understand how it exists for anything but talk radio.

Keep in mind this package does not give you access to what I consider some major channels. You DON'T get:

Howard 100
Howard 101
NFL games
MLB games
NBA games

For me not getting any of these are dealbreakers (even if Stern is a puppet now…). But to each their own.

So long as you are willing to go a month or so without SiriusXM you can always get the service for $6/month. You just cancel (don't deal with CS - just cancel). Within a week or two you'll start receiving marketing emails offering you to sign back up for $6/month for the first year. Sign up - next year - cancel and do it again. I've been doing this for several years now. It's fairly consistent.

I was willing to do this 5 year deal since that's even less than $6/month (even after taxes/fees) and I have an inactive car account now (active in the other car on a different account and I just use an Echo Auto in my car to stream) but it said I didn't qualify for this promotion. :-(

My sub ended in November. I called to get them to lower it and they wouldn't budge. I chose not to renew and had no plan on renewing. During BF they sent an email for $5 a month for All Access so I said I can live with that.. Each year I'll cancel until they send me a deal I'm comfortable with. Honestly I can live with out it but at the same time it's nice to have. Have Howard on right now even though I didn't know he actually only works 3 days a week.

Really hate how deals are only ever for people who are not customers. Despite my insistence, my wife has continued to be a customer for about 10 years, now. The only deal we ever see is 1 year for about $99, which comes out to be about $120 after fees and taxes.
If you jave two accounts.. close hers and let her stream your account via her phone...

Still running off my "lifetime" sub since 2009 Happy.
But thanks!
2006 here and 3rd car. And they even added streaming to it. No complaints for what I think was $299 at the time. Plus they gave me credit for the 11 months remaining on my new car that was complementary with the car. Think it was less than $150 out of pocket.

Did not work for me either but my subscription just expired, after all the blah blah from the CS rep. Not even the $60 a year was offered to me, the best price was $84 per year which is too much for the time I spend in the vehicle. They should in my opinion offer the 3-5 plans to everyone renewing? That way they do lose anyone.
I cancelled my subscription as 84 was all they offered too. Got it for 6 / month through Slickdeals XM page after I cancelled. I'm happy

The lifetime subscription was tied to the radio, not the account.
So unless you are driving the same car from 2002 today, sure you got a great deal.

Bluetooth and unlimited data plans makes these radios obsolete if you have an internet radio app, mp3 collection, or other streaming app on your phone. I don't mind listening to other markets' radio car commercials....I just wish I could end the commercials in my local market and the people responsible for them.
