Royalty fee is a false advertisement scam. No other online music providers charge it. I run as fast as I can once I hear it.

They want new customers to show growth. Obviously you keep renewing so there's no need to send you a discount offer.

Looking a little further, it appears this offer will only be extended to radios in cars that have not had a subscription for 5 years. So that means that unless your car is a 2015 model or older (considering that most cars with a sirius/xm radio also have a free subscription for a good chunk of time which would have to run out), your car radio is pretty much automatically disqualified from this promotion.

I can assure you royalties are real. I work in radio. We pay thousands every month to BMI, ASCAP, SESAC and SOUNDEXCHANGE. Just because other services do not charge it does not mean you are not being charged for it. They just build it into their prices. In radio, advertising pays for it.

I had subscription until 2019 on our cars. Just tried and got 5 years subscription for one of our cars. Didn't work for the 2nd car. Total came to $189.93 including taxes and royalty fees. Not bad.

It's a car kit cigarette lighter plug in thing and I bought it before 2012. I still have it.

Or, is this for factory built ins only?

Just because you don't pay them doesn't mean that they aren't real. Or that XM isn't responsible for paying them. Just means you know how to strike a hard bargain. Keep it up!

I got the offer for my 2008 van that has been without service for almost 3 years. My 2009 truck that has only been without service a couple months did not get the offer.

TOTAL SCAM, I have a 2015 Hyundai that I was told did not quality. When I asked why it didn't they said they didn't know. When I asked to speak to a supervisor the agent refused. The whole time they were pushing a more expensive plan. This is a bait-n-switch tactic. They don't tell you upfront that you have to qualify for the deal.
