This is a great deal if you can get it. I ended up getting the gen 2 because they announced it a few days after I bought the gen 1 so it seemed unwise to not send the gen 1 back and upgrade. I have been pretty blown away by the Beam + two Sonos Ones (which you could replace with play:1 or the cheap Ikea ones). No wires, don't need an additional stand to lift the TV up like you would need with an Arc. It's the perfect setup for an apartment or smaller living room IMO.

The differences between the gen 1 and gen 2 are marginal - at best. There are no up-firing drivers so it's Atmos in name only. Gen 2 probably has slightly better voice clarity on the center channel but unless you have heard both of them one after the other you would't be able to tell. You can pretty much get this refurbished gen 1 and the surrounds for the same price as the gen 2 - which seems like a no-brainer to me. It's what I would have done if this deal had been available when I got mine.

Same for me. I had a 15% upgrade I attempted to use, but doesn't apply and took off the $60 discount. Just signed out and checked out.

Don't sign in, it's glitched if you do.

The upgrade is only for a select few products that are new, if you click the original upgrade email it takes you to the eligible products.

I never understood the hype of the beam. A refurbished play bar for $100 more blows the beam out of the water
Agreed. I have a beam in the bedroom and it's my least impressive Sonos product.

How is the voice clarity and bass on gen1 for a living room TV?

I have the beam mounted on my wall in my bedroom and the sound clarity is very clear without the speech enhancement turned on and the bass is surprising for its size. I have an arc in my open concept living room but it's mounted under my TV on an arm. I have to use the speech enchantment on some movies because unless I put it up loud the voice gets drowned out. It almost sounds like there's an echo chamber happening behind the arc and tv. The placement of these products seem to make a big difference which is why my beam is sounding almost better than my Arc.
I may pull the arc off the tv mount and mount it directly to the wall to kill any reverb and enhance the bass that comes out of it.

Is this for Capital One credit cards only?
I have a checking account and don't see any offers anywhere.

I am sure it sounds great for bedrooms, but I was considering this for my living room of 13*15 size.

It may not get as loud as you want it to be for music on its own but paired with the surrounds and sub it can put out some pretty good sound. it's good at mids and highs so if you let the sub take over the lows then I'm sure it would do fine. If your just using this on it's own then It all depends on your living room setup. It may be worth the price difference between this and the Arc to try the beam first and see how it does in your place.
