I've added this kit to my tool set comparison spreadsheet:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/zzkh62u....xlsx?dl=0

Not really seeing a lot of practical added value over the Hart 215 but at least it's about the same price.

This set adds a few additional socket sizes but the extra count increase from the Hart 215 set is mostly made up in the doubling count of common sizes of the bit driver bits. I'm not sure who has ever needed metric AND standard slotted bit driver sizes but this set sure has them. They stick with only 12pt on the standard size 1/2" drive sockets and don't include any 1/2" deeps, which I find odd. They also do throw in a few small combination wrenches, but only up to 1/4 to 1/2" and 8mm to 12mm in size so nice idea but plan on buying a more complete set of wrenches to go along with this set if you don't already have them.

I was recently comparing between all the $99 as well. Here is a summary of what I found.

1. Dewalt 192 pieces DWMT75049
Best set with the most amount of deep sockets and regular 6 point sockets for each ratchet size. All 6 point sockets which is best bc 12 point sockets round out bolts under high torque. Most amount of extensions, adapters, and joint adapters. No screw driver fillers making all 192 pieces useful. Full lifetime warranty - 2 weeks to mail it out to you, unless you have a Dewalt service center near you. Only neg is I wish it came with some wrenches, but then it would not be a $99 set anymore.

2. Craftsman
My second choice with the most amount of useful pieces but not as many deep sockets as the dewalt. Awesome case, can be added on to other VERSASTACK. The negs are (49) Specialty Bits, Nut Bits fillers. Increasing amount of horror stories that many stores like Lowes do not honor the Lifetime warranty.

3. Husky 270 - Easier lifetime warranty exchange to Home depot. The ratchets look solid. Comes with a lot of bit fillers (60), does not come with nearly enough deep sockets. No 1/2'' 6 point socket or deep sockets. Lots of 12 point sockets. Case is garbage, tray slides out.

4. Kobalt - Pros: 90 teeth ratchets, extra tray in the box. Cons: Similar negatives as Husky. Increasing horror stories with Lowes not honoring the warranty.

5. Hart - Limited Lifetime warranty - not Full, whatever limited means. lots of screwdriver fillers similar to Husky and Kobalt set.

How do we feel about this vs the Kobalt or Craftsman sets that were recently this price (and still are if you can find it in stock)

DEWALT Mechanics Tools Kit and Socket Set, 142-Piece, 1/4 & 3/8" Drive, MM/SAE (DWMT73802) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WLVV...UTF8&psc=1

Has everything I might need. Doesn't weigh too much like the 192 pcs set.

Is Husky really in store replacement? I thought it was but the other night I brought a razor blade holder that had broken and my store told me it's mail in replacement only and I need my original receipt. Craftsman used to let you swap a tool right at the Sears counter. Is my Home Depot different? They were adamant I was wrong and none swap at the store anywhere, but I've always heard people say it's swap at store. Anyone know what's what?

Home depot and Lowe's is suppose to be direct in store warranty exchange, but some stores have horribly trained minimum wage reps. I guess they may be becoming like Lowes soon.

The 184 piece dewalt set in store at Costco seems better than all the $100 sets I have looked at. That's what I ultimately went with. Solid case and looks good with the black chrome

I can vouch that Lowe's the does not honor the in store replacement without a receipt. I brought my father's craftsman 1/2" ratchet in since the directional level was broken. The tool dept. rep. managed to find the matching tool in the tool drawer, same part# embedded on it. He almost did let me simply exchange it but he brought me to the manager of the store since he wasn't sure what to do with the broken one.

It's unfortunate that most, if not all, sears closed down. My dad bought a lot of craftsmen tools from there while I was growing up since they honored the replacement hassle free. If that tool was discontinued they would give you, its successor. I was a preteen in the store with a broken wrench and a cracked impact socket, I just showed the guy it and he took me to aisles to grab them off the shelf and I waited for my dad to ring up the other items.

I'm struggling these days to convince my dad to stop purchasing craftsmen tool since they don't make them like they used to. We still have some craftsmen ratchet that works great but we have two of those newer 1/2" ratchets I mentioned now just waiting to be butchered into a random tool.

I have had good experiences with Lowe's. Much better than HD. Lowe's has honored tool warranties when HD does not. I think you may be going to a HD location that has bad CSR.

No. These tools are decent as a backup set, but I'd always spend the money for a high quality tool set. My (non-impact) socket set is made in USA Craftsman stuff from the 80s that is still going strong. I always have a backup set of harbor freight but the difference in quality is staggering.

I hate having black sockets. Black sockets should be impact rated, and those aren't. I've seen someone ruin one of those Dewalt sockets because they thought it was impact rated...
