This movie was fantastic!! I deeply regret not seeing it in IMAX when I had the chance cause a friend said to watch it on HBO max instead since it sucked. But stupid me, I should've realized that most people (including my friend) like the big action Sci fi, superhero, colorful kinda movies these days and don't care about great cinematic visuals, sound and screenplay. This movie was amazingly made, unique and opened up for a one of a kind atmosphere that you won't see anywhere else. 8.5/10 for me!

You're in luck, it's back on IMAX in some theaters. Started again early December. Worth the experience.
I'll second this as a great movie. The clarity in visuals is amazing!!!! It tells the beginning of a great story so far. If the next film follows up as well as this, this should be considered a masterpiece. Worst part of this movie is the anticipation. It is a prequel to something amazing
I think the anticipation of the next movies in the series is what makes people like this movie. I watch a movie every night before I go to bed, and I thought this was one of the most boring movies I can recall. It does have some great visuals, but it doesn't actually accomplish anything in terms of telling the story. You could literally condense this entire movie into the 1st 15 minutes of the next film. I personally wouldn't pay $2 for an illegitimate VUDU disc to digital conversion for this movie as a standalone film. I might buy it as part of a bundle if the following films are great. I personally wouldn't even recommend watching it until the next one is released. It's really kind of amazing how people can watch the same movie and have such drastically different opinions.

I'm sorta with you... I really enjoyed the original Dune movie, especially the extended version. Not sure how I feel about this movie, great visuals but I feel like it lacked in both world building and story telling. I probably wouldn't buy this movie unless it's part of a movie bundle although I would watch it again. I'm excited to see where this goes... is this supposed to be a trilogy? To me it felt like this was just the beginning and seemed to languish quite a bit without getting any depth or progressing the story.

I assumed a trilogy, but IMDB just shows a part two, and the director mentions the first film is just an appetizer for the sequel, not sequels. I always default to trilogy to milk the box office, but maybe not in this case.

Too expensive for blu ray.
I do believe this is a MOD (Manufacturer On Demand) release hence the higher price. Following usual WB suit, it's likely digital will not be included past the initial pressing release for the 3D release if that matters to anyone.
The past few WB post-production 3D releases were given glowing reviews on bluray.com regardless of how good or bad the film was/is.

That really sucks, it seems like it'd be best as a trilogy with the slow pace and lack of development. Not sure how they're going to fit the rest of the story in with a sequel at the speed they were going at.

They stopped making 3d TV's back in 2016/2017. That was half a decade ago. It is a dead technology that didn't catch on and has been almost fully abandoned. The only reason disks still still exist are bc some of us desire uncompressed movies (slightly better audio/video). That and they are sooo cheap to produce.
Because they wanted to pump 4k and cheapen the sets any way they could. It had nothing to do with it being a dead technology. They probably put some yokels in a focus group and determined that they weren't going to sell as many 4K sets if they included 3D in the marketing, so they scrapped it.
Thankfully studios still spend loads of money paying hundred of Chinese people to post convert these movies frame by frame, and then put them on physical disc. They look great.
However look no further then these same discs to show another cost-cutting maneuver in only putting 5.1 audio on them, instead of the readily available object based audio tracks.

There will be 4 films if the next one makes its budget and the director wants to keep doing it. They dont want to run into an Avatar situation.

I heard so much hype about this movie. I watched it, and it came off as a real letdown. The transition to scenes came off awkward. The villain character is basically Fat Bastard from the Austin Power movies. LOL.
The movie seemed like it wanted to be this generation's "Star Wars" but boy is it a mess to a classic like that. Star Wars is a film you've probably seen 25+ times before, because its that good and has a lot of replay value. Dune is a film you watch once and you really have no desire to see it again.
Star Wars was inspired by the book this is based on. This film is a great part 1 of the book.
