Is this better than the Tetra here? We have a 6 gallon tank.

Tetra Whisper Internal Filter For Aquariums, In-Tank Filtration With Air Pump https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0002...58YFQB10FK
Much better than the tetra but the tetra is an internal filter and the Marina is a hang on back. I've owned that tetra and it's good but not ideal for your aquarium. It takes up valuable real estate in the nano sized tank. I'd get an aquaclear 20 if price doesn't matter. Otherwise this Marina is superior to the tetra for your 6 gallon.

Use this as algae scrubber for reef tank. Put meshes in place filter media.

I tried this filter recently, while it has some pros, the pump being in the tank has its drawbacks. I went back to an Aquaclear style filter that has the pump on the outside of the pump frame and out of the tank.
I only buy aquaclear now. They are the superior hob filter imo.

Is this enough for a 10 gallon tank? Assuming it's not stocked to the gills with fish?

Agreed. I've been using them for as long as I can remember since I was a young kid. I tried 2 or 3 different style filters recently from Amazon including this one in this deal, tempted by the cheap price mostly. All were a mistake, I blew the dust off an old aquaclear model I had in the attic and its running awesome. The filter may be old enough to legally have a beer in the states, and still works great laugh out loud

This filter worked for me for about 6-7 years before it finally died on me. It does what it's suppose to do, with a low profile which enables pressing the entire setup more closely against a wall (an advantage where space is at a premium). However, if you do have the space, it is pointless to buy this filter as there are plenty of better options on the market (Aquaclear HOB for example). For me, this filter was prone to clogging, and the propeller mechanism was in constant need cleaning (otherwise it wouldn't generate enough speed for the filter to work). When clogged there is also a hideous noise that results which was extremely annoying. I was more prone to this as I kept a sand substrate in my tanks, but having the propeller mechanism in the actual tank with any smaller particle substrate would likely pose the same problem. Lastly, as a fan of "natural" looking setups, I found the big black intake in the tank from the filter unsightly and prefer this to be hidden away outside the tank like most other HOB filters.

I got a few on sale from petco and a bunch from Craigslist for pretty cheap. They're the gold standard. I like them better than the tidals.

I had that tetra filter in my 10gal. but my mollies kept getting stuck to the intake slots. Unless you have large fish in your small tank I'd definitely make sure whatever you use has a sponge over the intake.
