Always? I'll disagree with that. There's plenty of furniture they sell that is of good quality.
disagree as well. Have had two pieces from them that are used every day and are holding up great after 2 years...
I've seen them in stores, yes. They are grey. Ignore the pictures in the post. The colors don't match. They look as if someone took a leather sofa and handpainted it grey with house paint—a very cheap look.

And, regarding returning a couch after 5-years for peeling. Sure, I see no problem if you purchased a warranty. I've had a leather sectional we loved refunded after 2.5 years because the dye was coming off when we wiped it with a wet paper towel. Fortunately, I purchased a warranty on it, but unfortunately the couch was discontinued. Returning a couch to a warehouse store after warranty has expired seems dishonest to me.
To each their own I guess.
Why would you purchase an additional warranty. Part of their sales pitch is the satisfaction guarantee. They, just like some other retailers realize that they make more money with these policies than they would without. Just Wanda vision going to bat for them here, and probably in person will give them more in return than that one occasional refund ever will.
The reason prices are going up is inflation. If your reason was true, only Costco would have higher prices. In reality, they have probably more stable prices than anyone else because of their buying structure and agreements with their vendors.

Purchasing an additional warranty was in regards to purchasing from a furniture store, not Costco. I always did because of kids/pets with spills, etc.
We can all surmise where Costco's price increases have come from be it inflation or now, but prices have continually increased over the last 5+ years on normal products. It may have nothing to do with the excessive returns, but my thoughts are the "everyday" products are pulling in $ to compensate for the ridiculous returns.
I spend quite a bit every year at Costco, and have never returned any opened/used item there. I guess that's just me.

Why would I need to purchase a "warranty". I have a LIFETIME SATISFACTION Guarantee. Which is something I pay for with my membership. But, like you say, to each their own..

Man, looks like there's a real bad supply crunch on furniture I never thought about until I had to refurnish the house. I'm looking for bathroom vanities and sofa sets and they're mostly out of stock or backed up 3-6 months.
I think Macy's has started getting back to regular.
All these people suggesting you can return it in X amount of years if you're not satisfied, Costco keeps track of your return records. If you're a serial returner or abusing the policy, they have the right to revoke your Costco membership. You'll can a refund of your membership after they process your last return.
I guess whoever saying Costco furniture cheap quality, i can bet they never used it.
We have Sofa from Costco and Ashley we bought it at same time.
After 7 years we retired Costco and donate to a charity in a decent condition.
Where as Ashley sofa almost gone in 5 years.
