50% off the Shun website price is pretty relative since other retailers such as Amazon carry their products too at lower prices.

ex. The Sora Santoku 5.5"
https://shun.kaiusa.com/sora-holl...-5-ol.html
vs.
https://www.amazon.com/Shun-Hollo...01DYHI4NK/

$50 at Shun (Warehouse products with possible imperfections, no warranty, non-returnable) vs. $79.95 at Amazon (new normal product).

Taking all the above into account the discounts are pretty underwhelming.

Can anyone suggest a knife block set that's high quality but reasonably priced. It doesnt need to be chef quality but durable. The knives I use right now I'm having to sharpen them pretty frequently. Thank in advance.

I take it you haven't bought one of their knives from the warehouse sale. The XXXX isn't huge and doesn't stretch across the entire blade. I have bought multiple from them and have only had one show up with a XXXX and it was pretty gosh darn small. The quality of the knives and prices during this sale make it hard to pass up.
And if you use them enough all the logos fade off anyways. Here's my 12 year old classic santoku and a 10 year old paring, both great knives.

Good deal for the boards. The knives at 50% off are about how they should be normally priced, so not a great price there. But I picked up one of the large boards during the last sale and was very happy with the quality. Picked up the medium and small boards that were on sale to add to it.

Even on sale, it's as $$$ as a Miyabi, which are superior Japanese knives....WTF?

400 for a 8" Fuji chef and 6" utility? Not up to speed on prices vs quality, but I have been waiting on some new knives.
This is one of the most reputable and respected knife brands in the world. Anything from them is going to be well worth the price in terms of quality.

It's under Classic. It's sold out. Was priced at $300. What a joke. It's a stamped knife. Low effort. Not all stamped knives are bad funtionally, if a good steel is used. It's VG10 I assume. Total joke at $300. I got Stamped VG10 Cleaver for $65 to hold me off till I saw a super deal. It works great. is the same as this $300 stamped cleaver.

This deal is a joke. I'm looking at other knives. One I know goes for $99 all day is listed as $150 half off = $75. So you are paying $75 for a $99 knife that has an unknown blemish and a xxxxx on it. You aren't saving $25, you are getting $25 off for a blemish. Pretty meh. I passed on that knife at $99 in the first place.

Don't think you have limited opportunity because a knife is listed at $400. It doesn't go for that much. Why not list at $1500? then you could save a whopping $750 on a knife you could get for $450. No that would be too much. They dialed it back to these ridiculous prices.

This deal is meh EVEN IF you aren't picky

You are right! I should have mentioned that… My oldest knife from them still looks great, cuts great, and the XXXX has worn away.

I just got this for my knives and it's the best and coolest looking for under $40...I like the dark but you has to be careful as the stain chips off easily.

Yet more typical joke of a post here! Miyabi are better knives. Hell, pay less and get a Tojiro. Shum thinks their knives are even as nice as Yu Kurosaki? LMAO!

May buy the drawer knife block. Mine is getting pretty dirty and chipped.

Are the differences with the honing steels just the wood handles or is the rod different?
