After putting mine together it seems solid. The texture isn't a standard knurled grip. It's more like a power coating.

I didn't get this to do crazy heavy weight, mainly just shrugs so I don't have dumbbells grinding up my legs, or a standard barbell hitting my.. bits. And for that it'll be fine.

Never buy black. The paint chips extremely easily and within a couple weeks of use, it looks like garbage. Always go for a non painted steel. I learned this from experience 🙄

Bought one months ago and it's been worth every dollar. I suggest getting some lifting chalk because it doesn't have gnarled grips.
