No priming bulb included. Without the bulb its kind of a PIA to get the siphon started and using the "back and forth" motion in the water scares the fish and they freak out. I personally wouldn't recommend one of these unless the bulb was included. Still decent deal

Good deal on a short siphon if you're going to go with a bucket. However, once you go with a Python and a sink or shower for suction, you'll never go back. Complete game changer.

What's the best way to clean a larger 55 gallon tank? I've been using my shop vacuum to drain and filling with the garden hose but that method doesn't clean the gravel.

As Simoleon mentioned, the Python No spill/fill kit is the way to go. It's all I use on my 90, 150 and 300. It just needs to reach a faucet for drain/fill.

I bought a gravel vacuum like this and went to HD and got a long hose so it would reach my garden. I siphon the gravel and let the water go into the garden and fill with a garden hose.

Unless you have a small tank. It'd be too much for my 40 breeder, but when I had my 55 and 75, it was the best thing ever. Incredibly convenient to use for a big tank.

Just purchased this one in the deal for my freshwater planted, thanks for posting!

Wow, that company is proud of that setup...$90? Isn't it just a plastic venturi connected to hose and the funnel? The same kind of $3 venturi you use to drain/fill a waterbed at the faucet?


EDIT: It must just be in low stock or something. I can buy the individual parts for half the cost of the actual Python kit.

Not sure what the going rate is for a python. I bought mine 7 years ago. I would bet at least $50.

you'd be hard pressed to find the same type of hose for less money. the vacuum tube is also thick walled. Chewy has the 25ft kit for $54 with free shipping.

What I've done is I rigged up a power head with a hose that sucks the water out and I put like a little tube with some floss and this kind of siphon that way into a bucket. And I replace The water with gallon jugs of water. It does the water change and cleans my gravel.

I have several tanks and I use a Superior Pump 91014 1/4 HP High Flow Thermoplastic Utility Pump that I got off Amazon. It's oil-less and makes quick work of water changes. Simply hook up a garden hose (the more rigid, the faster the flow, I use an Gamo RV one), drop it in tank (use a cheap Dollar Tree plate to set on top if you have substrate) and plug in. Forget the python, go with a water pump and it will blow python out of the water. You can use a transfer pump too, both options are quick and cheap.
