I can confirm, I had ANC when plugged in on my Q30 then updated the firmware in May or June and it now turns off when plugged in. Made it unusable on planes for me. I now have the q35 as well which can keep ANC on when using 3.5mm and the included wire also has a mic which I haven't tested yet but could be used as a gaming headset plugged into an Xbox controller for example

That is so crappy. Good thing I have never updated the firmware since buying them in February. I fly on planes a lot. That is pretty crappy of them for removing that feature.

Just noticed this too in my Amazon cart! I actually have both and have been debating which to keep.

I've discovered that the q30 has quite the following by audiophiles. There are EQ settings created/shared by experts. The issue I'm seeing is that a firmware update seems to have changed the EQ options to whole numbers. Of course this is not required and just an opinion. There are quite a few built in options so just check them out yourself. So far I like the piano and acoustic EQs.

Is the Q35 worth $30 more than the Q30? I'll be using them with an iPhone so the addition of LDAC isn't compelling. TIA.

Looks like the ability to use ANC when wired is another difference (might be nice for movies on a plane).

After my experience with the Q20s I'd never recommend Anker for noise cancelling headphones. Makes a horrible pop in your ear with every single step you take. Upgraded to Jabras and am much happier.

You can usually "turn off" the ANC to hear background noise. Check the manual.

Since you have these, maybe you can answer my question: can you use the ANC alone, without any other sound playing? I often do this to block out the sound of leaf blowers and whatnot. I have a cheap pair I use now, wondering if these might be better.
