Forgive my ignorance but why is this a bad deal? Don't most people activate a phone right away in order to use it?
Not when they're looking for an unlocked phone. That's the whole point. They can do what they want with it, when they want to. The ad is very misleading to say the least.
Why thumbing it down? OP please add with Activation on the title. No idea why anyone would care when every single main carrier is there to choose from
People on SD buying unlocked phones are probably running mint mobile, red pocket or the like. The big 3 carriers are overpriced.
It's not no strings attached deal and that is why BB routinely offers lower price by $100 (or in some cases more like this) "with activation". I'm sure they get some kind of carrier kickback.
i mean if you're in a specific circumstance it's still maybe a good deal for you though.

When a best buy phone is bought online for store pickup with activation, does the staff have to open up the phone and activate on the line listed when ordering?
I buy unlocked phones, and like the ability to use on any carrier. With activation deals I believe you have to be eligible for an upgrade or whatever
If you are eligible you should be immediately eligible again after the purchase because you're buying the phone outright and not relying on bill credits.
The issue I'm having is that when I add to cart (AT&T) it tells me:

:
Upgrade Not Available
Upgrades are only available when you select a monthly pricing option. Back to pricing options
Though it never asked for my mobile number to verify
upgrade eligibility. Back to pricing options is just where you choose a carrier or unlocked.
Just bought one. I have TMO. $300 saving instantly, no need new line, no need trade-in.
If you can find this phone for less without trade-in or need new line of service, let me know.
I use AT&T prepaid. Just bought S20+ 5G unlocked refurbished from SD deal for $446 plus tax. Arrived today. It's new and comes with 2 year warranty. Blow it out your ear, Best Buy. Worst return policy in the business.

I bought the same thing. Glad to hear it's new and not "refurbished" as listed. Thanks

Maybe the deal is new lines for AT&T? Lame.
