I got one during BF for the same price. i love it actually. blacks are surprisingly deep blacks, almost OLED, almost no blooming that some folks complained about. colors are nice and clarify is good. IIUC, U8G is brighter and faster response time but mostly the same TV. my u7g is actually too bright that i had to turn it down to ~70% and response time seems imperceivable to me. i was considering the U8G since seeing some deals here but i figured i'll save my money and stick with the U7G. the TCL R646 is also another good contender and may be slightly better but also at a higher cost.

BestBuy (or TCL) has pulled the TCL 646 off their site for software(?) Issues. I was scheduled to have a 55" delivered tomorrow but cancelled. Thinking about the U7G.

Software issues related to apps are irrelevant if you use a Chromecast or Xbox, etc.... I never ever use the built-in apps

Local dimming on this tv is disgusting. I returned it for a tcl 6 series. Gaming features are nice but not worth the shit picture

I bought a 55" U7G. I returned it. My experience was not positive.

After 1 day multiple problems with optical audio out, wifi, and Ethernet. Firmware update partially fixed issues. Not fully.

I couldn't calibrate the colors. I don't have pro equipment. Just a calibration blu-ray with a handheld filter. No problems calibrating other TVs for acceptable viewing. Couldn't get the colors right on this TV. Tried for days.

Blacks were excellent. Brightness was excellent. No blooming on my set. I WANTED to like this TV. The colors were just too far off from real life.

Bottom bezel isn't flat. It's made with a distinct angle. It catches light in the room. So the bottom black bezel looks silver with lights on in the room.

All issues combined, I couldn't justify keeping it.

Bought a Vizio MQ7. Has some blooming, not as bright, not 120hz BUT color was more accurate out of the box than I could get after days of messing with the U7G. No other issues. I'm keeping the Vizio.
