Things I liked at this price: (1) Battery backup of of 7.5 hours from 100% to 15% (2) Full HD screen 1080p (3) Many ports - 2 USB, 2 USB C, MicroSD, 3.5 mm Jack (4) 14" screen as it gives less strain on eyes when we work longer (5) Very important as per me which I learnt - This Chromebook has anti-glare (anti-reflective) screen which means you will not get irritated by seeing all background reflection in screen while working

Things missing but not expected at this price: (1) Backlit keyboard (2) Touchscreen

I also bought Lenovo Idealpad Flex 3 for $200 but I will return it. It gives eye strain because of small 11.6" screen and it does not have anti-glare screen, you see whole background in it like a partial mirror.

Nobody is paying $350 for this junk. $200 is a more realistic regular price for it, with $50 off making it $150. They can inflate the MSRP to whatever they want and then offer huge discounts to make the deal look better. Lenovo does this all the time.

There have been some really good deals on the Acer Spin 713 Chromebooks. $270 for the i3 version and $360 for the i5 version. It has the really awesome 3k screen, plus a better processor.

For this range, the Samsung Chromebook 4 was on sale for $84 at Walmart, and later Amazon.

Might be to late for those deals before Christmas, but I bet we see them again in Jan.

Of course those acer chromebooks are better at 2x plus the price.

The samsung chromebook 4 had: smaller screen at a lower resolution, less onboard storage, and only one USB-C port that doubles as the charging port.

This Asus seems priced about right for those upgrades.

I thought a regularly priced $350 Chromebook would have a touch screen.

Your comparisons are way off here. Acer Spin 713, while a great value, is $120 to $200 more. Roughly double. Samsung was smaller screen size and lesser resolution and less storage.

You are correct. I was focused on the Celeron N4020 processor and 4gb of RAM. Based primarly on that, the Samsung Chromebook 4 is a perfect comparison, because it has the same processor, and RAM. On the other hand, if a larger/higher resolution screen is important, then I feel like the Acer Chromebook Spin 713 is the next step up at $279 (assuming you can still find it at that price).

This model fits somewhere in-between those 2 models. It's advantage over the sub $100 models are the 14in screen with 1080p, and the larger storage capacity (128GB vs 32GB and 64GB). I just think if those features are important, and you plan on using it extensively, then you probably want to take a more step up, and look for something with a better screen and a faster processor. On the other hand, if those features aren't important, because it's for occasional use, and you want something as cheap as possible, then your better off looking for a deal under $100. But that is of course just my opinion, which is what

As a follow up, the 2019 version of the Samsung Chromebook 4 is still available as a refurb from Walmart for $79. The only differences (that I know of), between the 2019 and 2021 versions are that the 2019 model comes with a Celeron N4000 vs the N4020 in the 2021 model, and the 2019 model comes with a microSD slot, while the 2021 model does not.

$79 is a great price for basic Chromebook minus the features you list in the pervious comment!

I am typing this now on a $79 Samsung Chromebook. The processor is very responsive compared to Mediatek or Rockchip. And the keyboard on the Samsung is way better compared to Lenovo and Acer. The screen is bad will cause fatigue when viewing text for a long time.
Acer Spin - 713 i5 - excellent screen but i5 ($350 +) is too much for a Chromebook. If it was easy to put windows / Linux then it would become an excellent deal.

I bought the i3 version of the Acer Chromebook Spin 713, aka the CP713-2W-3311 [bestbuy.com] model, when Best Buy had it on sale for $279 (it's currently at $329). They offered it at that price twice, as a single day deal, so no guarantees, but it wouldn't surpise me if resurfaced around that price after the holidays. Accer offered the i5 version, aka CP713-2W-5874 [ebay.com], with 8GB instead of 4GB of RAM, was also, rather recently, on sale for $369. That was also a pretty good deal, at least for someone who needs the extra CPU power. Note the "2W" refers to the 2020 models. If you see a "3W" they are the 2021 model. I don't know all the differences, but I think the biggest is that the newer models use 11th gen processors, while the older ones use 10th gen.

Personally, I use mine to access other machines over the network. So what I wanted was the screen, and the keyboard. And of course single threaded performance.since that's what matters most with GUI apps, and whether they feel responsive. So far It's been running great so far. Nice and snappy... I'd say it's even faster than my ThinkPad P1 for what I use it for (SSH, editing text files, and Firefox). OH, and YES, I replaced ChromeOS with Fedora 35. I was actually planning on returning it if I couldn't get it working. If you're interested, I posted my setup notes online a couple of days ago, so another person Slickdeals could do the same. You can find the notes here [pastebin.com].

I also bought the Samsung Chromebook 4 when Walmart had it on sale for $87. I haven't set it up yet, but I'll probably install Arch on it, and use an Xfce desktop (Fedora works best with Gnome). That might change though, since I haven't decided what I'm going to use it for yet. As I mentioned above, if you bought the $79 version, it's the 2019 model, aka XE310XBA-K01US vs the 2021 model, aka XE310XBA-KC1US. I just couldn't resist having another "terminal" at that price. I figure the longer return window gives me more time to find a role for it.

I agree! If willing to get a machine with a Pentium or Celeron processor, it should be under $100. Of course, I also agree that an 11" low resolution screen isn't ideal for something you're going to spend lots of time looking at...

I think I am going to buy one of these. While a backlight keyboard would be nice, I have never seen that at a $150 price point. My main concern is the screen is not IPS. Costco has a different ASUS model on sale for $200 with an IPS screen, but it has a much older CPU, less storage, etc.. My main concern with Chrombook is them being slow, so I would opt for the newer CPU over a better screen.
