I would recommend going with two different systems for lock and alarm. All these systems will eventually be hacked. If the lock and alarm are both in the same system, one hack gets them both. If they are different, hacking lock system will be detected by alarm system (and vice versa).. hopefully laugh out loud

Having said that, someone determined would get in no matter what. This is only about your peace of mind (that you have some protection.. real or otherwise).
I have the raspberry pi sitting quietly (I mean no voice right) watching them. Lol.

Yes, that's what I was telling my wife other day when we watching the movie where hackers can control everything once they get in network. But I am not sure if they were so bright, why would they hack us and find nothing but stacked up tissue papers and useless/ful stuff from SD. Lol.

No it doesn't, this is a doorbell that a person rings when they want you to open the door, you don't need anyone monitoring that

this Ring or the Eufy 2k video doorbell (local storage)? Both are roughly same price
I have the eufy 2k doorbell and it's okay. Yesterday I didn't get any recordings for about 12 hours, when I knew there was my family and I going in front of it. Really made me mad. I don't know about Ring but I'm willing to give my Ring that I haven't installed yet a try. Plus I already have the Ring alarm system and I wouldn't mind having the professional monitoring.

I have 2 rings and they work about 50% of the time. If I use the app to "live view", they work 30% of the time. Very frustrating to say the least.

Actually it does, if you already have the alarm system, ring protect plus includes the professional monitoring

Eufy is hands down better than Ring. After Amazon bought Ring this started to go south and I haven't missed them in the slightest since switching to Eufy. Nothing is 100% perfect but Eufy gets much closer than my Ring.

Usually it just tacks a year on to your current subscription, but I would double check with Ring to be sure.
Quote from Vinnyg :
If you look at the middle of https://www.costco.com/ring-video...1243.html, it states " Offer not available to existing subscribers"

Yes, I did it they basically cancel ur plan and put I on a 1 year trial

For those of us grandfathered in the $10/month plan…if we get this, does anyone know if we'll have to pay $20/month or can we still keep the $10/month plan after?
Well, if they cancel your existing plan and put on a year trial, then i doubt you would still get the grandather rate. Unless they are stating in writing you will absolutely get your grandfathered rate afterwards, i wouldn't risk it.

I was waiting for this deal for a long time now, but now with the new rate change and grandfathered rate, i don't think i will bite.

Ring doorbell 2 was terrible for me. Probably true for all door bells. I have Eufy now but even that doesn't connect some times, but it is much better than Ring 2.

This one is supposedly better (based on their claims), but who knows.

I'm curious to know if I can keep the doorbell for my use as i already have a ring alarm system but give the subscription to someone who is looking to start a ring subscription. Any thoughts?

Is the subscription tied to the doorbell somehow?
The subscription is tied to the doorbell. Once you activate the doorbell on your account it adds the 12 month subscription automatically. You may be able to deactivate it from your account afterwards and keep the subscription.

I feel the same way too. As much as I would want to upgrade my older first gen ring doorbell, I don't want my rate to double after the 1 year trial. I am grandfathered into the $100/year plan with professional monitoring

Ring updated their plans in September. New protect plus subscribers don't have pro monitoring feature. They have to pay double for pro monitoring. Grandfathered subscribers do still have pro monitoring until year 2025.

The "grandafathered" rate is for all gen 1 systems.

I flip and invest in real estate. I have activated 2 separate gen 1 systems at the $10/month rate this month and last month as vacancies occurred.

This can change in future, but seems we will (may) get to activate any gen 1 system at $10 until they change it for everyone.
