Nikon refurbs are too chancy with only a 90 day warranty. Especially when complex lenses can be badly decentered and the discount for the 200-500mm is only $20 less than the sale price on Cyber Monday. Shame on Nikon for the miserably short holiday pricing this year. And holiday discounts that were worse than during the Spring and Summer of 2021.

Been shooting Nikon for 20+ years and have purchased their refurb lenses without any issues. One knows quickly if a lens has a issue and can return for exchange or repair. Their quality control is excellent.
I personally have had good luck with Nikon but there have been recent reports of decentered copies of the RF 24-200mm and we all know about the long sad saga of the D750. It's also worth noting that Nikon is shifting a lot of production, is downsizing worldwide and has gotten rid of their old 5 year warranty on lenses with registration. As it is, a 90 day warranty on refurbs is a joke when Canon does a full year. With the winter weather, many people buying complex lenses won't notice if their lens is decentered until the 90 day warranty is long over. You can assume the real pro users buy them new and return the bad copies of their lenses.

The D600 is the one Nikon DSLR that was riddled with issues. I bought the D750 brand-new, sent it in at no charge for both corrective recalls and shot it successfully for over 7 years after shooting a D90 and D7000. Rather than a "long sad saga," I enjoyed it and made some of my best shots with it. It never failed me and I only sold it to move up to Nikon's mirrorless Z System. I've also bought lenses refurbished from Nikon and had absolutely no problem.
The Nikon factory-refurbished lenses I've bought have worked without issues. I'm not sure where you get your information regarding the refurbs being problem lenses that "pro" users have rejected. Refurbs also include units returned to a reseller during the return period. These units are inspected and ensured by Nikon to be within specifications, but can no longer be sold new, and often appear brand-new except for the white boxes Nikon uses for refurbished gear.
purchased a 'refurb' 14-24mm F/2.8 a year ago. Appeared to be brand new in a brown box. Has been excellent except for the slightly miscalibrated infinity. With a little repeated tweaking, its been a wonderful lens

I got a refurbished 58mm 1.4g from them. It looked new.
