Best Buy removed (for now) all the TCL 2021 5 and 6 series Google TV models because of the mediocre/low ratings brought about by the glitchy OS/software.

This is the same TV as last year's Target Black Friday deal for $230. https://slickdeals.net/e/14509307-65-tcl-65s434-series-4k-uhd-smart-android-tv-230-free-curbside-pickup?src=SiteSearchV2Algo1

Got it then.decent set nothing spectacular. Update the firmware as soon as you get it. I hate the one button control underneath the bottom of the TV though.
Android os sucks on tcl, roku is better

Tried Android TV earlier this summer, wasn't a big fan. Is price good enough to get it and use with ROKU stick. Was looking at some 65in TVs to replace my 4yr old 50" TCL

Can you elaborate as to why you didn't like it? I don't have any experience with either Android TV or TCL.

Sure. I use Android phone and casting from phone would either cut-off picture or show navigation bar. Another turn off was that I couldn't cast videos from my favorite site while there's an option of "play on Roku"
It might be one-off experience because my use is probably not how most people's use their smart TVs. If you use Hulu, Netflix, etc, you may very well like Android TV.
With how cheap all these units are nowadays, may as well try it out for yourself and eeturn of you don't like it

Thanks for the reply. Those do seem like annoying things, I tend to cast a lot too.

It's funny how subjective people's feelings are towards the interface. I've had this TV for over a year and absolutely love the Android interface.

I don't love the one button control underneath either but it's pretty standard on modern TVs. Our Samsungs at work have the same "feature". As far as one button goes, I prefer the TCL implementation (click to change, automatic select when done clicking) vs the Samsung one (click to change, hold down to select).

Agreed. We have Roku TCLs and I like the customization options it has but honestly any TV OS is only good for basic stuff. As soon as you try to get even a little fancy (target for Plex or Emby etc) you are much better off with a dedicated device, even a cheap version.
My logic is buy whatever you like/is the best deal, you can always get a cheap and updated device to attach later on.
For example, if you have Netflix, the Chromecast with Google TV works out to be like $9-15 after the Netflix credit. I'm sure the Roku sticks are equally reasonable and either of those is going to more capable than the baked in OS for streaming.
For what it's worth, the Roku interface is pretty slick, has some good customization options, the Roku channels are a nice addition, and it does a relatively good job with Live TV. On the negative side, it's really chatty on the network and is always trying to phone home. Plus you can't halt updates unless you block stuff on your network (or don't give it network access at all).
Not sure if Android is quite as noisy on the network, as we use a CCwGTV separately.
