Simply not true. Instead of linking a generic tech site take, Google "Adobe Lightroom alternatives" and you will see Luminar tops most of those lists on photography-centric sites. It's quite a good product that one can actually buy as opposed to rent like Lightroom. Luminar just has a history of giving away their older flagships when they move to a new product. When they were on Luminar 4 getting ready to release Luminar AI, they gave away Luminar 3. Now they're on Luminar AI getting ready to release Luminar Neo, so they're giving away Luminar 4. And it's a great giveaway.
Not true. I actually paid for this app and I feel it was worth the money. Saves a lot of time compared to editing pictures in light room or photoshop, requires minimal knowledge of editing and doesn't have the steep learning curve of other apps.
I do agree that the app is slow and unstable. Windows version is unusable at time. Performs much better on M1 macs. For free, this is a must try.
I like the Luminar series of products as it is a time saver in comparison to other companion software found in the Adobe suite at a much better price.

You need a decent processor to run it (I use a i7 with 16 GB RAM in my setup). I like picking up their software at a good discount on Humble Bundle as it speeds up and simplifies my work flow.

I use it in conjunction with Corel's PaintShop Pro (a Adobe Photoshop replacement).

Luminar 4 is right now one version out of date but a good introduction to the software. Currently Luminar AI is the current version and soon to be two version out of date when Luminar Neo is released, (Feb '22) both of which have more capability than Luminar 4.

Some other deals that are similar but cost $$$'s are as follows

Luminar AI, Aurora HDR (Great for automatic color correction in default setting although it is designed for HDR photos) and other tools and add ins for $25 at https://www.humblebundle.com/soft...i-software (expires in 9 days) and is a current front page deal https://slickdeals.net/f/15473026-humble-bundle-photoediting-to-the-max-skylum-software-pwyw-25-for-17-items
Corel PaintShop Pro 2021, Corel Painter 2021, Video Studio Pro 2021, etc. for $30 at https://www.humblebundle.com/soft...e-software (expires in less than 2 days) a preivous "Hot Deal"

I got both packages from Humble Bundle, and it supports non-profits.

Now compare that against the price of Adobe Photoshop $240, Lightroom $120 and you can quickly see the advantage for a hobbyist going this route.

Free!

Decent paid Adobe Lightroom and free DarkTable alternative for photo image adjustments (color, contrast, sharpness, cropping etc).

It will make most older/slower/low end PCs feel sluggish - not optimized for speed. But not so bad that you can't get things done.

Luminar is moving into their next AI photo editing app, so support and updates for 4 is discontinued. They'll offer paid upgrades naturally.

None of these are full Photoshop / Gimp photo editing tools, so you'll need these as well for more intensive edits.

Just OK as an app. Not worth paying for, but it's free.

I don't have any crash when I run it on Windows.

I think this should be on front page. Free for such an amazing tool. I can do all the editing with it.

Seeing is believing. The AI Sky replacement is amazing. You cannot easily do it in photoshop. They can do it in one click. While I waiting for Neo which I preordered, I can use the free Luminar 4 to do some editing.

Another benefit is you don't need to pay for the subscription fee every year to use it like photoshop. You can use it until you want to upgrade to a newer version.

Thanks a lot brother. I already have Affinity and I love it so much but I will keep Luminar just in case.

I've used this and now use Luminar AI. It's about the same. The AI found in Luminar 4 doesn't seem any different. Even for my M1 Mac. Even thought it's "optimized for M1" it is still slow. It's definitely nice that it's free now Smilie
