Amazing deal on this excellent drum kit. Last front page for this was 279. This is cheaper. All time low I'm pretty sure.

This is a perfect ekit for Rock Band/Guitar Hero using the Roll Limitless adapter. Much better option than trying to find any game specific drums. https://rolllimitless.com/roll-limitless/

Edit: Someone even designed a nice 3d printed adapter for this set https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4825349
I play both drums and piano, and have played extensively on both electric and acoustic versions of each instrument. As long as you're using a good digital piano with weighted keys, the difference is minimal. Obviously if you're doing a recital or something, give your kid some time to practice on the different instrument (but that should be true no matter what).

For drums, there's maybe a slight difference in feel between the two, but honestly percussion is mostly learning about rhythm and coordination, which you could do just by tapping your feet. Learning specific drum patterns will be transferable from the electric to acoustic, assuming they have a similar setup (i.e. toms, number cymbals, etc).

TL;DR stop worrying so much about the instrument, just get them excited about music. Just don't cheap out and get something SO bad that it's hard to enjoy the experience.
Any drums will do the trick, electronic or acoustic. It's all about training your limbs to work independently. Worry about the drums sounding good after you know how to use them a bit better. Also, you will appreciate the ability for your kids to throw on headphones and jam away in silence.

I got this deal from B&H from Dec 2018 for $275 w/ no tax. I love playing it and had few buy the same. Uses so much less space than a standard kit and feels way better than full rubber pads IMO. Still going strong! Anyone that is new or experienced I would totally get this kit

I was able to price match this with B&H, but now is taxed (from CA). For those who might still have that 2x $175 gift card deal from earlier on the year this is a great chance to use it

What's the main difference between this model and the "surge"?

In 4 1, had a $50 off Amex promo for using points for some reason. That sealed the deal.

I would really like to get this kit, but I've always been told Roland makes the best drum kits. Decisions decisions.

Want to get my kids started on some drum lesson. Can anyone chime in on their experience? Are there any down side to take lesson in these over acoustic drum set? Not sure if this is the right comparison, but in piano they always say to practice on a real piano over digital piano even if the keys are weighted. Hope to get some insight. Thanks in advance.

But "they" don't say that about pianos.

Not much. The modules are the same. The Surge has a 10" snare vs the Nitro's 8". The kick drum pad is also slightly larger on the Surge (important if you play double-bass). Other than that the differences are mostly cosmetic.
