Looks tempting. But these are only rated for inflation as fixed rate is 0%. Once inflation is back down, your rate will go down with it.
In case you're wondering, here's how the rate is computed:
Composite rate =
No, these are govt bonds. They stay in the treasury. I bonds are based on the rate of inflation. They have a fixed rate plus the current rate of inflation. Inflation goes up, you earn more. It was 3.54%. Rates went up on 11/1. To realize the full benefit you need to buy before the rates change on 5/1 and 11/1. No fees or penalties. Hold for a min.of a year. If you cash out in less than 5 years you forfeit 3 months interest. After 5 years, you don't pay anything. You can only buy $10k/yr and then up to an additional $5k if purchased directly from your tax refund.
I bought $10k in denominations of 2,3, 5 so if I want to cash out I can do it in chunks instead of having to cash out $10k.: Better than any CD or bank rate if you want to stay in cash.
By the way, using your tax refund to purchase bonds won't count toward your $10k yearly limit.

How often would you purchase with each chunk of change?
There is no need to purchase in chunks.

Per the website, you can redeem your original investment in full or partially. So, if you only redeem $500 after 12 months, you receive the $500 plus the interest that $500 accrued.

I've been buying I-bonds for over 15 years. I just stick part of cash allocation in there.
I had no idea these existed till a few months ago and I have been expertly investing for over 20 years..

Someone sent this to me and said what's the catch? I couldn't find it other than the $10k limit ( and it seems people found a work around on that)

In any event, I got excited and told everyone I know to buy these. I thought these were new due to elevated inflation. But now I see that this the best kept secret because all the wortless hack FA's don't make anything off it and can't sell it to you

Bitcoin is currently at 48K. If you think it will hit $60K ($9K less than its all-time high) at ANY point in 2022, that's 25% gains on your money. Spoiler: it will and it will hit much higher. If you're getting excited over 7% you're being foolish. If the treasury has any brains they're taking everyone's $10K and doing the same. That's the only way we're ever gonna curb down our debt besides nuking China and we voted out the only man who had the balls to do that

I have had about a dozen old E bonds from 10 to 20 years ago and all are total trash. These series I bonds seem great for next few years as inflation kicks in like we have not seen in 40 years. I just grabbed up $10,000 with no problem and now will get 30K more with wife and two kids. Oddly enough I bought at 2:30 A.M Pacific time on a Thursday night / Friday morning and the final page of treasury website says the transfer will not take place until Monday so looking at a three day delay. Not sure why they will not do the ACH or pull the money from my checking account on a Friday but just FYI. Plan to buy again in January as the best I seem to do on my investment are 7% and this is totally risk free and liquid in 12 months so works for me.

There is a limit of 10k per year per ssn. So good to park some money but not like investing in regular stock or bond market.

Forgive my ignorance; I'm just trying to understand how these I bonds work as I've no experience with them before.

How often does the 7% interest compound? Every 6months or annually

How easy is it to cash out the I bonds. Can I just do it online and money comes in the linked bank account within 24hrs? Can I go to chase bank and rhey can just give me the cash while they are waiting for money to come in the bank from the treasury.
So one needs to click 'Redeem securities' link in their account and provide how much they are cashing out. Interest will be paid to only that specific amount and sent to linked bank account on next business day". Can't get easier than that, You can also provide view and transact right to your spouse or partner.
