^^ Software is everything on a router. Synology to this day still does not accomodate VLAN's or even have plans for WiFi 6 on their gear. It's driving many users to look elsewhere for a router, when Synology was once considered better quality equipment. This is only for their routers, not for their NAS products which use DSM.

This is a very slow wifi router given the lack of antennas.
It has 8 antennas.

Synology just revealed their WiFi 6 router during their December Beyond event.

Supposed release date is Q1 2022.

Eh, if you really want to get high routing speeds as the 10GbE ports here suggest, IMO it's better to step up to a Ubiquiti Unifi DMP (Dream Machine Pro) - I got mine here on a slickdeal for $250 in January and they ocassionally have sales. It has all the advanced enterprise features you could possibly want *IF* you want to take advantage of them, and routing speeds are very high - up to 3.5Gbps *WITH* IDS/IPS (intrusion dectection AND intrusion protection) enabled. I only have 1Gb ATT Fiber so I can't test that myself but my kids regularly see 880Mbit/second downloads on steam games. Everything is so much faster and more reliable now, and I'm not rebooting a router or Wifi Access Point 1-2x a week. It just WORKS.

Yes, you have to buy separate Wifi Access Points, and you'll need POE injectors or a POE switch (Ubiquiti has some, although they're a little overpriced) but being able to manage everything through one interface and just have it all WORK together has been amazing.

I also use mine to drive my intelligent video doorbell (recording to the hard drive you can insert to make a small NVR), it supports up to 8 cameras I believe, and it supports talk (VoiP phones with video too if you want) and "Access" control too, although most homeowners like me don't care about that part.

This would have been a great hardware router if it supported PFsense/Sophos and had 4 POE ports.

Good luck finding anything ubiquiti at retail right now. Their website is perpetually oos and eBay is scalping their products to kingdom come.

After having experienced their NAS products, I'm not sure I'd want anything by Qnap to be WAN-facing. In my experience they don't seem to be rigorous about security with their NAS products so I have trouble imagining they would be significantly better with a router.
