OnePlus is a nightmare to deal with. Worst customer support I've ever had the misfortune of dealing with. Wasted countless hours dealing with support over literally 2 months, had to send my phone in twice and lost a $20 Dbrand skin in the process. Issue was never actually resolved, and they refused to replace the phone. They'll forever be on my shit list now.
Thanks to itxjustin for the steps to make the phone SIM-free (unlocked to use on other carriers).

1. Turned the phone on without sim
---- Connect to WIFI --
2. Went to Settings, Connections
3. Select Network Unlock
4. Select Permanent Unlock
5. Done
6. Update to Android 11
7. Check with a non-TMO SIM to see if you can make and receive calls.
I had this phone for almost a year and a half. It was great at first but now it gives a "not responding" message every so often. Also gets a lot hotter than it used to.... I bought it for $400 awhile ago so I'm not complaining. I love the hypercharge feature, every phone should have it.

I think it's still a good phone for $250 but just know there are issues with it.

You can kick and scream and cry and say that I'm lying all you want, but I'm simply telling you what I personally experienced. And I know I'm comparing used to new, but I'm strictly talking in terms of value, bang-to-buck ratio. Used vs new doesn't matter, especially with how horrid OnePlus' customer support is. Does buying new matter if OnePlus refuses to repair any defects and blames it all on the user? Imo, no.

Try running an emulator on a low budget Xiaomi device on MIUI vs running a AOSP-based custom ROM, and see how much worse the MIUI ROM performs in emulation. Hell, my Nord N10 can barely hold a solid 50 FPS in GTA SA (the old mobile port) on stock OOS compared to my custom ROM'd OPO, which can hold a solid 60 (albeit, with a lot of heat).

Facts = hate, got it. Will keep that in mind for next time 🌚
lol...ok buddy...i doubt anyone really cares about your comments at this point, i certainly don't, but here are 3 steps to preserving mental health:
1) sit down
2) relax
3) and in your case, turn off the SD app and delete this thread from your frontal lobe

No audio jack. Waiting for a deal on Nord N10 for that reason.

Will this be compatible with AT&T after they turn off 3G? Currently have a 7T and 6T and getting messages that phones won't work in 2022.
I'm on Cricket (AT&T MVNO) and I have a OP6 and that seems to be the last incompatible OP phone. Any version newer than that will work after the 3G shut down.

The 8 is better than the Nord N10 in almost every way.

I upgraded from an OnePlus 5T to an 8 and I've been enjoying the experience. I miss the aux port, dual SIMs, and physical fingerprint reader, but I love the brilliance of the 8's screen. Honestly, there was nothing wrong with my 5T and I've found the phones to be very similar.

There's a lot of change going on in the OnePlus ecosystem right now, so I would be hesitant to recommend a purchase of one of their newer phones (like the OnePlus 9). The recent rollout of Android 12/OxygenOS + ColorOS was a disaster and had to be pulled back. 🥴 The complaints about OnePlus are just growing and the decisions that they're making are killing their brand.

However, for $250, I think this phone is still a great buy.

Does it work with Verizon or visible

i'm on tmobile, not verizon...

however, any 5g capable unlocked phone can theoretically work with all 3 major carriers these days since the technology across the carriers in the US have mostly converged -- only difference being the support bands...
But if it completely worked on Verizon, there won't be a Verizon version of this phone.

BTW, you can't even use a normal Oneplus 8 case on the Verizon version.

I have 7 for two years now, works perfect. But this is tempting.

Different version = 100% support for the carrier's proprietary bands…

but again, someone actually on Verizon would be better to answer this question…

Considering buying a new phone but not in a rush to do so. Should I be considering this or pixel 5a more?

Depends on your budget. Is the pixel worth the extra money to you. Only you can decide that

No wireless charging except the pro right? What's the lowest ever for the 8 pro?

It will survive 3g shutdown. I activated a few days ago and it's working fine, and when I put the IMEI in their compatibility checker (Cricket) it says it's good. My old phone says it's not compatible when I check even though it would have still worked until the shutdown. I am, however, not getting 5G speeds, but that's not a deal breaker for me.
